Well said Andy , I don’t understand the disloyalty ?

Thinking a former player was shyte isn't disloyal

He wasn't though.

Or at least not all the time.

It's as silly and people think Kel Moore was amazing once his hip went lol

Let us take a trip down memory lane. Fans thought at the time.

He is one of the softest, most frustrating, insipid footballers I have ever seen."

"Chaplin is soft as butter and goes missing when the heat is on."

"He shirks contests and doesn’t have the heart for the tough stuff."

"Chaplin’s got no mongrel in him, just coasts when we need someone to stand up."

"Weak as pee in the clinches, always looking for the easy ball."

"He’s not brave enough to take a hit for the team, always pulls out at the last second."

"Chaplin’s softness kills us in defense, no physical presence at all."

"Lacks the guts to go in hard when it matters, just not a Richmond-type player."

"He’s too timid, won’t put his body on the line like a true backman should."

"No hardness about him, just floats around looking for cheap kicks."

What does that have to do with his skills as a coach???

Utterly irrelevant

Best golf coach is an average player himself (Leadbetter)
Best tennis coach ever was an average player himself (Bollettieri)
Best NFL coach - look up the playing careers of Lombardi and Belichick
NBA - look up the playing career of Gregg Popovich

But the geniuses on OER don’t want Chaplin because they thought he was limited as a player

Give me a spell

The bloke could be a super coach

The AFL is so backwards on this topic

What's the timeframe for those comments?

Bet it wasn't his entire career at the club.

Right. So nothing in 2013 at all.

Then about 10 sooks in 3 years.

Reminds me of the Ben Miller whipping.

Had a dip plenty of time IMO.

Thought he was alright for that time. Nothing special but not terrible.

Astbury was a clear upgrade once he replaced him in the side.

Nice, balanced assessment.

Amazing how retirement seems to taint some opinions.

You'd think this guy has hooked up with their mum and daughters for a 3-way lol.

Did anyone actually say they don't want him as coach or simply say he was an average player?

Of course they are backwards in regards to coaching

Apart from Fagan , who will be coaching in the GF this weekend , what other coaches didn’t play at the top level ??

AFL coaching is a boys club

I am not sure how to put this but I would say our 2017 coaching panel was a mini team who all had roles to play in putting the pieces together for those 3 flags. I think he is a “professional “ coach, which is different to a group who saw an opportunity to create a legacy. Read into that what you will.

The video that I liked was a metaphor which I get might have not quite landed.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Danny Daly will be next. :shh

Bolton the dud, Neil Craig. Neelld I think. I'm sure there was another.

If the candidates are not there then what do you want them to do? They have to complete courses , and actually do something which is quite unique and actually put their name out there. :lol

Thanks for proving my point

Neeld played plenty of VFL games
Neil Craig over 300 games of SANFL footy, same thing back then.

Bolton is all you can come up with and it took him 20 years of coaching with a great resume to get a chance…

Compared to other leagues around the world, terrible numbers and obviously a boys club

You can’t tell me there isn’t sensational footy minds in lower levels that will never get a chance despite being deserving

It would be interesting to see whether Demon supporters rate Chaplin as an assistant coach. Chaplin appears to have come at a time when the Demons had a good defence. My memories of Chaplin are dominated by that terrible mistake he made in that final against North
