Going in hard is nice .... but do you reckon he can find the pill. Coz tonight Rodan couldnt get the footy and had no idea how to get it. I counted maybe 5 possessions and he seemed to spend a decent amount of time on the ground. Laying tackles that dont hold for mine dont count.

Sometimes its those one percenters like tackling skills that make a difference.I just thought his efforts tonight were of note.I didnt specifically look out for him but he caught my attention enough to notice that he was going for it and making an effort.

People like me look at very  high tackle counts, look at the games and the movement of the players and are not impressed with blokes who are 2nd to the footy 9 times out of 10.

In that case RT you might have noticed he had a lot of mates out there tonight who were 2nd to the contest as well:
                              Kicks           Hbs          Tackles
Rodan                       5               5                8
Simmonds                 10              1                1
White                       9               2                3
Tambling                   5               1                5
Richo                        7               0                2
Tivendale                  5               3                6
Moore                      7                1                5
Meyer                      7                2                2
Brown                      9                2                3
Gaspar                     7                 3                2
Hyde                       7                 6                4
Tuck                       7                 5                4
Raines                     6                 4                1

My point is not whether he was first to the contest but that he was having a red hot go.If he gets dropped next week so be it but i doubt you could question his attack on the ball.

With all due respect...Simmonds, Tambling, Richo, Meyer, Brown, Hyde, Tuck and Raines...have acquired some leeway because of past contribution and future potential. Rodan has neither past performance to give him leeway and sadly hasnt shown enough to be around for the future.

I didnt say he didnt have a go. I dont think ive ever said a player doesnt try. I may question a player if I think he hears footsteps or takes some short steps...but ive never said a player hasnt given his best. My opinion on Rodan and about 17 or 18 other blokes on the list is that their best is well short of what we  need to be successful and they need to be moved on.

Rodan        - played his last game IMO. I was told the last time he was dropped he wouldn't play for the RFC again.
Simmonds  - did the ruckwork on his own. If I was critical of him tonight it was not now and then smashing the ball forward just to have the ball moving in our direction.
White        - tried hard to play running footy but the clangers he made decison-making wise costed us goals.
Tambling   - Shocker. Missing all night.
Richo        - Shocker. He's not fit or at least match-fit even if his hand was right.
Tivendale  - Shocker for the second week running. Trade.
Moore       - Not the worst out there.
Meyer       - Still played out of position IMO.
Brown       - Missing for the first quarter and a half but did ok after that. Missed two shots you would normally expect him to nail in the 2nd quarter.
Gaspar     - Hall ran him around up the ground but he kept with BBBBH and wasn't disgraced.
Hyde      -  Patchy.
Tuck       -  Disappeared in the second half. Two ordinary games in a row too.
Raines     - Beaten as O'Loughlin got 3 goals but not disgraced given the ease the ball came into the Swans forward line.

Add Paddy to. Like his brother he is no shutdown key defender.

This game looked like Men V Boys.

I supose if you look at the team list thats exactly what it was. How many of our guys have less than 35 games ? Not sure exaclty but it would be close to half of tonights team.  We just thave to think 2-3 years down the track that

Sarge=Hall
Tambling= O'Loughlin
Polo=Kirk
Delido=Okeefe
Raines= Kennelly
etc
etc
(these are not exact but you get the drift)

We have the players (I hope) we just have to wait for them and get rid of the fringe in the meantime.

PS Richo anywhere but in the forward 50= turnover so TW please stop sending him elsewhere.

Rodan        - proved me right, he is not up to it
Simmonds  - "did the ruckwork on his own. If I was critical of him tonight it was not now and then smashing the ball forward just to have the ball moving in our direction."  ....agree
White        - "tried hard to play running footy but the clangers he made decison-making wise costed us goals."...just an avrerage player, just making up numbers cos of injury
Tambling   - "Shocker. Missing all night".  the tight rugby conditions did not suit him
Richo        - "Shocker. He's not fit or at least match-fit even if his hand was right."... agree but would have been nice to see him get a free here and there. LRT broke every rule in the book and got away with it

Tivendale  - "Shocker for the second week running. Trade."..... was outright pathetic, at least 6 weeks str8 now he has been very poor, not 2, worst player on the ground by a mile, delist  him , drop him asap and draft a young kid in his place

Moore       - "Not the worst out there." ,,can hold his head high, played well once moved on o'keefe   , i thought his skill and decision making and efforts were pretty good

Meyer       - "Still played out of position IMO."  i agree but he looks very classy
Brown       - Missing for the first quarter and a half but did ok after that. Missed two shots you would normally expect him to nail in the 2nd quarter.
Gaspar     - "Hall ran him around up the ground but he kept with BBBBH and wasn't disgraced."
..hall did that  but i felt gas one that dual , esp the one on ones , well done gas!
Hyde      -  Patchy.   ..has lost some spark
Tuck       -  "Disappeared in the second half. Two ordinary games in a row too.  " has been poor most of the yr,   seems to escape the criticism radar, his skill and drive is far below last yr, trade him while his market value is high
Raines     - "Beaten as O'Loughlin got 3 goals but not disgraced given the ease the ball came into the Swans forward line.  "  wouldnt say beaten, total mismatch in size, o'loughlin should have kicked 10 on him if he was any good!
"Add Paddy to. Like his brother he is no shutdown key defender"...true but he should not play that role, jay should have played in defence, and richo in the square alone with 2 crummers
krak....tried his guts out, even had his head nearly taken off, showed MORE heart and passion than many of his teammates, was not rewarded 4 his efforts last night, some of his passes were gems, just to see the marks spilt.

sugar......was fantastic

polo.......was very good again, he has king size balls, maybe lids can learn from "marco"

chubba....played his worst game, but i dont think his head was right

the scg!!!...should be banned for all afl games, the ground is way too small and is suited only to sydneuy style rugby

I felt sorry for Richo (as I would) as he obviously wanted to get into the game.  Schultz seemed quiet in the second half - what happened to his nose?  I didn't think that Krakoeur did anything to deserve the accolades X gives him.  White was costly.  I thought it was Gaspar's foot that connected with Chubba's head.  Tuck's kicking Kirk's head was a strange one - hard enough to knock him out cold but no serious damage.  First quarter was terribly scrappy from both teams.  Raines was outmatched by O'Loughlin and Paddy was obviously missing his brother.  Why didn't Chubba go for the shot for goal in the last quarter?  Polo seemed to be one of the few players making any sort of impact.

Krak is in my list of players who failed to deliver once again.

Players to trade or delist from last nights game:

Krak, Tiv, Tuck(not going to improve anymore, get rid of him while he has some value) & Rodan.

Players to get another year:

White: Only his first year of senior footy, if he is going to play AFL he needs to commit to the contest and get tougher. aka Foley.

Moore: 6 games to get another year. Did well last night on O'Keefe. Injuries have made it hard for him but he is versatile and could be handy.

Most of the rest are under no pressure IMO.

Nearly.

Seems he is always trying his guts out.... but not always delivering,

Why is this?

Quote
showed MORE heart and passion than many of his teammates,

What u r saying here is there were far "worse" players.

Quote
ome of his passes were gems.

Some.

It tests which teams and players have footy brains. It's an old-school ground which you play old-school footy on especially when its wet. Keep the ball moving forward and 50m+ kicks straight up the guts to the hot spot with crumbers front and square; not this high possession chip sideways crap. The more you handle the ball in those conditions the more likely you'll turn it over which we did.   We just played into the hands of the Swans all night by allowing them to choke the game and flood our forward line with our slow movement of the footy. Once the ball was turned over they had a open paddock forward of the centre for all their forwards to lead into.
