Normally the umps get it right with the winner(s) but there are the shockers such as Geoff Raines not getting a vote despite being the B&F in a premiership side that won 16 1/2 games. Cambo was another who hardly got a vote.

The history is littered with the ones that the umps got wrong, but no one remembers because of the ridiculous nature of the award(the umpires vote) and the players that do receive the medal are usually good players anyway so it tends to be brushed over.

If the award is fair dinkum how come Carey never one a Brownlow or Ablett Snr etc?

The favourite very rarely wins because the umps are usually off the mark as opposed to the rest of us.

So, who will have caught the umpires' eyes in 2006?

For field umpires, some key features of the players who poll well in Brownlows include: players who kick goals; players who carry the football and bounce; players who take contested marks; and players who just generally get a lot of the football.

What this means is that the trend of goalkicking midfielders who run through the lines and regularly bounce the football will continue to win Brownlow medals.

Would love to see Scott West win - he deserves it.

Been one of the most consistent players over the last 5-6 seasons I reckon.

Perhaps the umps may notice him more with the style of play the Doggies play - then again half the time they (the umps) are lucky to keep up

not a big fan of glen archer but he is right when he says, the brownlow is just an umpires award , means nothing!!!

the afl must scrap the brownlow and the afl mvp award should be teh only one that counts, voted by the peers and coaches only

I have backed Goodes.  I think he will fly home in the last 4 rounds.  I was going to back West but think Johnson will take too many votes off him

I think Goodwin will win but I would love too to see Scotty West win it. He deserves one.
