Was a fantastic mark by a really good footballer. Remember being at that game. I think if my memory is right we won that day by 10 goals

Mark Fine lists Michael Mitchell's goal as the best running goal ever....

1. Michael Mitchell - Richmond v Sydney Swans, 1990, round 22
Mitchell was a speedster from Western Australia who had a penchant for the spectacular. He won both mark and goal of the year in 1990, with his goal earning top-billing as the greatest running goal the game has seen. Playing for Richmond at the SCG he grabbed the ball from a spillage across the half-back line. Seven bounces later and with countless Swans players left in his wake, he calmly slotted home a goal from deep within his own 50m arc.

If only we could have had a 25 yo Michael Mitchell playing for us today. One of my favorites but he came to Richmond when we were no good and couldn't show exactly what he could do. Left the game with his head high. And the mongrel who took him out behind the play in bayswater in a practice match can go and get f'd.

Thanks to the Tigers

“I am forever grateful to the Richmond Footy Club for what they did for me.  They gave me that opportunity.  Hopefully, I don’t get too carried away with it, but a lot of people other than Richmond fans, even lots of fans from other Victorian teams, they say, oh, you were good, and we used to go and watch you.  You may not have been playing for our team, but we enjoyed watching you play.  And, that kind of feedback, while I don’t get carried away with it, it’s reassuring that I was doing something right.  And, I guess, representing Aboriginal people in a very, very positive way.
