The AFL celebrated the AIS-AFL Academy tenth anniversary today.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou, Australian Institute of Sport Director Professor Peter Fricker OAM and Australian Sports Commission CEO Mark Peters were joined by past AIS-AFL Graduates at a breakfast at AFL House in Melbourne to mark the occasion.

Since 1997 300 AIS Scholarships have been awarded and AIS-AFL Academy graduates now make up 18 per cent of AFL lists.

Andrew Demetriou thanked the AIS for their contribution to the program over the past decade.

“The AIS-AFL Academy is a key part of our NAB AFL Rising Stars Program and has consistently produced footballers that excel on and off the field. We are pleased to be involved with the AIS, a world-class organisation that offers scholarships to our best young players,” Mr Demetriou said.

AIS-AFL Academy graduates Brady Rawlings (1997), Brendon Goddard (2001), Richard Tambling (2002) and Clint Bartram (2004) also attended the breakfast today with more recent graduates Scott Gumbleton and Mitchell Thorp (2004 Academy graduates) and Tom Hawkins, David Armitage and Matthew Leuenberger (2005 graduates), who are preparing for the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, to held in Melbourne tomorrow, Saturday November 25.

To celebrate the anniversary, an AIS-AFL Academy Team of the Decade was announced.

They've got Buddy Franklin named at FF based on just two good games so it can't be that elite  ;). He's become the most overrated footballer in the League  ::).

Really shows the trend towards midfielders in the modern game.

No real KPP of any note, I mean Hodge at CHF !!

Use to be that a champion CHF was a prerequisite for a premiership.
