in a way i was hoping he and meyer would go elsewhere.
if i watched them succeed as rodan and ottens have done, then i would be convinced that playerdevelopment at punt road of younger players is vertually non existent.
that's a big worry with me.
i actually like the talent that the club brings in, but the inability for the kids to kick on points to poor development. although i think the kids respond well to Craig McRae he needs better support around him though
The problem at Richmond is these kids have the responsibility to perform major roles from go as the senior core around them is thin when it should instead be the senior players who carry the majority of the workload and let the kids develop around them. Lids, Blingers, etc are expected to dominate games or they are seen as failures. Take Lids - he's being tagged as a 20 year old for crying out loud because the opposition see him more as a threat than any senior player we have. Same with Foley who is only 21.
Rodan is a good example. He went to a club where he was No. 16-22 in their side and performed great feeding off the work of Port's star players. Come GF day he went missing because Port's star players were well held.
We need to first develop a new core first which is what we're slowly doing before we too can allow youngsters to develop in their own time with the structure of a more senior core around them.
