Most of the game he had 2 direct opponents, and at other times had to fly against 3.
At least twice he was bumped/shepherded away from the contest before the ball was anywhere near the landing zone.
Terrific tackle led to one of his 4 goals.
To say he was lazy is misguided.
This.

He was our only forward who looked dangerous. Not worried about Jack at all, he is going to have a ripper year. He is a great finisher which is why he can appear selfish or 'goal-hungry' at times. Our other forwards need to lift.
Ps. I reckon we are gonna put in a good showing this weekend.

THE EARLY part of Richmond’s 2010 season was as bleak as old boots. It started when Carlton made the Tigers look third-rate in the opening round.

They went on to lose the opening nine games before finally cracking a win against Port Adelaide.

Two weeks later, Richmond played West Coast at the MCG.  Two teams playing ordinary football. Not much expected.

Then Jack Riewoldt, the Tigers’ brash, bouncy, 21-year-old full-forward, kicked five goals in the opening quarter. In the last quarter, he lined up for his 10th.

Richmond fans didn’t quite believe it. This didn’t happen to the Tigers, a club that had played in two finals series in three decades. It happened to other clubs.

And yet here was Riewoldt, the player who everyone knew simply as ‘Jack’, lining up for the increasingly rare feat of a double-figure bag.

On kicking the goal, Riewoldt wheeled into the air. He swung his fist underneath and around and set off a wave of emotion that swept the stands.

Richmond fans clapped and clapped. They couldn’t stop clapping. For the first time in a long while, they were proud.

In that moment, Riewoldt became a Richmond cult figure, the playing face of the club. It would be a wild ride.

Richmond fans love Riewoldt for his displays of pleasure and pain.

He paws at the ground. He flies from four-deep. He yells at his teammates. He celebrates goals by doing little high-steps. He tries scissors kicks. He a clown. He’s a ringmaster.

In round two last year, against St Kilda, Riewoldt was knocked out when he hit his head on the turf after descending from the top of a pack.  It was a Friday night.

Everyone could see he was dizzy. His eyes were rolling around like marbles. And yet he wanted to stay on. He wanted to ignore the medicos and keep playing, so he looked up to the coach’s box and made his feelings known.

On national television, he had a tantrum. His desire to play got the better of him. It was silly, but it was hardly a crime. Long live the passionate ones.

And Carey, speaking on The Game Plan, took a light-hearted jibe at Tigers forward Jack Riewoldt, who has kicked four goals in the first two games of the year.

“If Denis Pagan was the coach of this bloke - and I’ve met Jack, he’s a lovely bloke and I think he’s a terrific footballer - he’d say `Jack, don’t worry about getting your hair cut like a goose, get short back and sides and go out there and play some footy’. That’s what Denis Pagan would say.

“And Damien Hardwick was coached by Denis Pagan and I’m tipping it’s in the back of his head and he wants to say it, but probably these new-age sensitive guys don’t do it any more.”

Tigers' star Jack Riewoldt tackles bullying

Lucie van den Berg
From:Herald Sun
April 21, 2012

HE STANDS almost 2m, so it is hard to believe anyone would mess with Jack Riewoldt, but even the hardened footballer has been a target for bullies.

Now the Tigers sharpshooter is taking a stand against bullying and urging all Australians to follow.

He also warned that cyber bullying was one of the biggest threats to children.

"I have been bullied, but not to the extent that other kids have," Riewoldt said.

"I think every kid who has gone through school has unfortunately been on both sides of the fence - as a bully and being bullied."

Riewoldt is the official ambassador for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, which aims to keep children safe from violence.

He wants bullying to be stamped out.

"We go to a lot of schools for junior clinics and it's something that a lot of our players see," he said.

"If we see kids misbehaving or acting badly towards another kid, then we will pull them out and deal with it.

"We need people to stand up and say, 'You shouldn't be bullying that kid' or, 'I am being bullied, I need help'."

Riewoldt said the issue was complicated because some children used bullying to deal with difficulties at home.

"It definitely exists in the community and unfortunately there are people who can't see past it," he said.

"The introduction on the internet of Twitter and Facebook in terms of cyber bullying is something that young adults and kids are having to deal with, because they are in these environments - that's the biggest issue going forward."

Riewoldt said he was one of three boys in a family with strong values.

"We were brought up very strongly against teasing and bullying," he said.

Richmond has announced the foundation will be its preferred charity partner for the next three years, a decision Riewoldt says carries extra significance for him because he is a Tasmanian.

It was formed after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre in which sisters Alannah and Madeline Mikac, aged six and three, were among the 35 people killed.

If you didn't see Jack's disallowed mark in the third qtr, or the blokes chopping his arms you'd have to be suffering from Geischen syndrome. Even the commentators mentioned it.
I missed this post of yours RR. If those two were paid as they should've been then Jack would've walked away from the game with 3 goals from 7 shots which is a decent return. Jack had every right to be frustrated with the umps last week. The only thing I would tell Jack is next time to have his arms fully out-stretched when going for marks when in front of his opponent so the chopping of his arms is easily seen even for the dopey blind ump we had last week.

Can you gentlemen please return to the topic at hand, ie that Jack Riewoldt is a flog and his attitude is costing us games.

Roos wants Riewoldt tackling

By Kim Hagdorn
Sports News First
26 April 2012

AFL great Paul Roos wants Richmond goal-scoring ace Jack Riewoldt to model his game on former Sydney colossus Barry Hall.

Riewoldt has been down on his important scoring contributions in Richmond’s stuttering start to the season and confronts the miserly West Coast defence in Melbourne on Sunday.

Roos has appealed to the Tigers sharp-shooter and reputed scoring source to be more intent on crucial, team oriented forward line pressure efforts in a bid to replenish his personal goal supply.

Riewoldt, 23, has booted 6.9 from his opening four outings this year as the Tigers have stumbled into the new premiership season with a 1-3 start.

The star Tiger’s forward scoring avenue averaged four goals a game in 2010 when he won All-Australian selection with 78.39 and also managed 62.26 last season with significant increase in scoring assistance to teammates.

Riewoldt is headed for a showdown with in-form West Coast and reigning All-Australian full-back Darren Glass at Etihad Stadium or a vastly improved Eric Mackenzie, who is fresh from a shootout with gun Hawthorn forward Lance Franklin.

“He’s got to focus on tackling and chasing,” Roos said in a blunt assessment of the Tigers star on Fox Footy’s 'On the Couch' program early this week.

“It’s amazing when you do that as a forward.

“When ‘Hally’ was at his best at the Swans, he was one of the best forward fifty tacklers and chasers in the (AFL) competition.

“Goals tended to come after that.

“Those are the little things he needs to do.”

Roos expects Riewold’s renowned acts of demonstrative frustration when he is a victim of poor ball supply and delivery from his midfielders will be difficult for the emotional Tiger’s forward to quell.

The 2005 Sydney premiership coach compared the reigning Tigers star forward to former champion big man and ace goal-scorer Matthew Richardson.

Richardson booted 800 goals from his 282 Tigers games and is renowned for his open displays of disapproval at poor delivery from up field.

The popular former Tiger is now a top AFL television and radio commentator, along with Roos.

“It’s hard to change,” said Roos.

“We saw Matty Richardson and he’s one of the great players of all-time and I loved watching Matty.

“But even he said it was just so hard to change when you get into those habits.”
