HUGE TRUenergy VFL ANZAC DAY SHOWDOWN
Rivals Box Hill Hawks and Coburg Tigers square off tomorrow in what shapes as an epic TRUenergy VFL Anzac Day encounter at Box Hill City Oval.
Captains Kristian Height and Travis Ronaldson will lead their charges into battle for the Anzac Day Cup in front of an expected crowd of more than 3,000 people.
Among the young guns expected to line-up for the Tigers are Jack Riewoldt, who has kicked seven goals from three rounds, Adam Pattison, Cam Howatt and Danny Meyer. Full back Zac Dawson, forward Beau Muston and Beau Dowler could turn out for the Hawks.
Coburg has been in impressive form. A come from behind victory over North Ballarat in round two was backed up with a big 61-point win over Werribee. After a shaky start, Box Hill is looking to notch its first win of the year and will lift in front of a vocal home crowd.
The big clash will kick off at 2.08pm and be preceded by the national anthem at 2pm to be sung by Gemma Purdy and a rendition of the Last Post and Reveille.
There will also be a jumping castle for the kids, entertainment and the presentation of the Gibbs-Lines Medal after the game.
Richmond star and former Box Hill player Troy Simmonds will be special guest at the president’s lunch.
At noon, Whitehorse Mayor Cr John Koutras and Box Hill Hawks President John Ure will open City Oval’s new entrance, which has been named “The Ron and Barbara Gibbs Entrance”. Ron and Barbara Gibbs combined committee service to the club equals 122 years.
Box Hill City Oval is located at the corner of Middleborough and Whitehorse roads, Box Hill.
