f***ing f***

 :(

What's the problem?  He is a kid who is injured and we still don't know if he is going to make it or not.  What a great opportunity to trial a rookie and see if he has what it takes.  If he is going to be any good, Cotchin has 15 odd years in front of him and we aren't going anywhere serious this year that he will miss out on.  Patience will pay off in spades with a kid like this.

your right no need to rush it but the ankle was only meant to be a 2-3 month thing at the start of september

something must have happened to make him need more time which is dissapointing

Cotchin to wait for debut
2:14 PM Wed 13 February, 2008
AAP

RICHMOND fans will have to wait until at least round three of the home and away season to see Trent Cotchin, their top pick from the latest NAB National Draft, in action.

The Tigers have placed the exciting 17-year-old midfielder, the No.2 overall pick in last November's draft, on the long-term injury list, with a broken bone in his foot and Achilles tendon soreness.

It means he will have to sit out the pre-season and the opening two rounds of the season proper.

The decision gives Richmond the chance of elevating a rookie-listed player into their squad for the opening rounds.

Football director Greg Miller said the club would watch the form of their four rookies during the NAB Cup, in which they are allowed to play, before deciding whether to promote one.

Two of them, former Essendon ruckman Tristan Cartledge and ex-Coburg key defender Jarrod Silvester, were selected in the Tigers' squad to play St Kilda in an opening round NAB Cup match on Friday night.

"There's a few who may play through the NAB Cup, it gives us some flexibility," Miller said.

He said Richmond drafted Cotchin aware of his injury and had always expected him to miss the early rounds of the season.

Obviously it's down to Cartledge or Sylvester as to who'll be promoted. Still makes you ask why did we hold onto Cam if he isn't to be the first rookie promoted.

Well done on the original scoop TFL  :clapping.

I thought they said he was aiming for Round 3. Don't think there was anything definite about it, just a goal, we all need goals.

i cant see the point of rushing the kid, even if he debuts in r14 or r15 ... give the kid the appropriate amount of time. We can afford to do it, we are not gonna have a good season anyway.

Agree smokey. As good as Cotch is, no way he'll walk straight off the long-term injury and into the seniors. Miller must have meant a round 3 VFL debut at the earliest.

Only at Richmond does not playing increase your chances of getting a game lol. Sylvester and Cartledge last night probably boosted Collard's or even Cam's chances of promotion off the rookie list  :-\.

While I was at training yesterday I spoke to one of the trainers about Cotchin. Basically although he's out for a while as we know he'll be fine in the long run. Cotch apparently wants to get out there but they've made him hold back. Told him he's only 17 and there's plenty of time with his whole career in front of him.
