You would think that this arrogant, pompous buffoon would have learnt the lesson of speaking entirely inappropriately and out of school with his ill-timed and poorly thought out comments about Paul Roos and Sydney in their premiership year.  He has absolutely no place or right to make such a comment regardless of the context and if I was Richmond I would take the matter further.  How would he handle any club or administrator questioning his performance or position in the scheme of things?   >:( >:( >:(

A journo today (Friday) asked Demetriou if the priority picks would be abolished as a solution to stop tanking. Demetriou basically said no and one of the reasons he gave for why they wouldn't be was that it wasn't in any coach's interest to end up with priority picks. Carlton were the only club in line for a pre-first round priority pick last year and Pagan got the sack. He then said Carlton and Richmond are in line for one this year and if Richmond ended up with the priority pick then Terry Wallace won't be in a job perhaps. So Richmond and Terry will be going all out to avoid the priority pick.

Edit: I've re-heard what Demetriou said and changed the last line of my post to what was exactly said. It still means the same thing.

Agree smokey. What coach the RFC has is the RFC's business not Andy D's.

Caro's view on Demetriou's Wallace comment ....

Demetriou said that footballers themselves don't tank. No one has suggested they do. He said that coaches get the sack on the back of continued poor performances, but conveniently omitted that the untried and relatively inexperienced Ratten was rewarded with a contract after never managing one win.

Demetriou even — and somewhat inappropriately for a man in his position — predicted that Terry Wallace could get the sack should Richmond have another poor year.

Perhaps Wallace remains in the gun for admitting to his conflicted emotions before losing to the Saints in the final game of 2007.

It is true the Tigers' coach might have used the political issue to deflect attention from his dreadful year but that does not mean he was not telling the truth.

Demetriou should stand down, his job is to oversee football admin not comment on coaches and boards should or should not do. Comments like those are a manifestation of his contempt of those around him and him believing he is bigger than the game itself.

I would love to see Wallaces KPI,s, they wouldnt be too flash would they?

One of Wallace's KPIs is to improve the quality of the list

Picks #1 #2 and #18 would be quality therefore Wallace would be meeting that particular KPI

Can't blame Demetriou for stating the blatently obvious.
