They showed both clip of the incidents again on FC. As RROFO said with Howat's one on Hartlett is impossible to tell what happened except you see Hartlett go down. The match review panel must have purely gone on Hartlett's concussion but that's not proof. Gary Lyon said Howat should appeal.

He may have had some sort of fit for all we know looking at that footage.

Heartless thinks to himself, "OMG I play for Carlton!" and immediately faints. lol!

Howat is challenging his charge.

I think he might go - the guy obviously got hit - will be innerestin to hear what Hartlett, who has accepted two weeks, has to say. Maybe he will say he was so concussed he can't remember   ;)

Soloman is also defending his charge.

He will just cut and paste from his previous 15 defence statements.

Tiger Howat to go to tribunal

RICHMOND'S Cam Howat will face the AFL Tribunal tonight after contesting a striking charge against him.

Howat was charged with hitting Carlton's Adam Hartlett in the third quarter of the Round 1 match at the MCG on Thursday.

The incident was assessed as intentional, medium impact and high contact  and would earn Howat a three-match ban if found guilty. He would have been banned for two matches had he admitted the charge.

Harnett, meanwhile has accepted a two-game ban for hitting Howat  in retaliation.

We can't get Cam off but we're trying to cut the suspension down to 1 week by claiming contact was reckless rather than intentional. So it'll be either 1 or 3 weeks.

Cam lost his appeal. Suspended for 3 weeks.

Just announced on SEN.
Cam cops 3, evidence seems very inconclusive. Hartlett takes the 2, evidence most definately conclusive. Did Hartlett break the player code at the tribunal when he didn`t have to?

He should have taken the two weeks.
He shouldn't have hit him (behind play) in the first place.

The footage is inconclusive but I'm not sure why Cam and the club appealed when he pleaded guilty for striking  ???.

"Howat pleaded guilty to striking Carlton's Adam Hartlett and failed in his bid to have the
charge downgraded from intentional to reckless. "

Apparantly he took advice from the captain - the club's leading clear thinker  :thumbsup

Howat, Solomon each cop extra week
Bruce Matthews | March 26, 2008

YOUNG Richmond midfielder Cameron Howat last night was suspended for three matches after pleading guilty to striking, despite having no recall of the offence.

Howat, who could have accepted two games, was hit with the extra penalty by the AFL Tribunal on the basis of an opposition club's medical report, inconclusive video evidence of a behind play incident and the accused player's vague recollection of the clash with Carlton's Adam Hartlett.

The panel, Emmett Dunne, Wayne Schimmelbusch and Wayne Henwood, delivered a harsh early season warning against rough play when Fremantle defender Dean Solomon gambled and lost, copping two matches for rough conduct against Collingwood's Shane Wakelin.

Howat will miss games against North Melbourne, Collingwood and Fremantle, while Solomon is out of Saturday's night home game against Hawthorn and the derby against West Coast.

Hartlett was ruled out of games against St Kilda and Essendon after he accepted a two-games penalty for striking Howat in the third quarter at the MCG last Thursday night.

Howat admitted to the tribunal that he struck Hartlett when trying to break a jumper hold in a clash a couple of minutes before the Tiger wingman was helped off in a groggy state.

He argued that his action against Hartlett was reckless rather than intentional, claiming he pushed his Blues opponent in a bid to get back into play. Accepting the match review panel's finding and a Carlton medical report that Hartlett complained of a sore jaw at three-quarter time, Howat told the hearing "there was contact, but it wasn't intentional.

"It's a harsh setback for Howat who was elevated from the rookie list only last week to replace injured draftee Trent Cotchin.

He told the hearing he remembered only parts of the first half and early in the third quarter and had no recollection of striking Hartlett to the head.

Asked by AFL legal counsel Andrew Tinney why he pleaded guilty, Howat replied: "It was a pushing motion which was deemed to be a striking motion.

Hartlett would do good in soccer where you are allowed to fall over and cry like a little baby. And it has worked for him as he has got the better end of the deal. And what he doen was twice as bad. As it has been said what else do we expect from the AFL. Carltanters are a endangered species so they have to looked after.
