David Mundy up for grabs?

Victorian clubs set to target Freo defender
Jake Niall | May 13, 2008

FREMANTLE'S David Mundy is set to become a recruiting target for Victorian clubs, with the talented defender having put off any contract talks with the Dockers until the end of the season.

Mundy's management has informed Fremantle that he does not wish to enter into contract discussions until the end of the season — a decision that will prompt Victorian clubs to pursue the hard-running 22-year-old.

Mundy is one of three Victorians at Fremantle whose contracts expire at the end of the season. The Dockers face a challenge to re-sign super-tall ruckman Robert Warnock, who has attracted strong interest from Melbourne, where his brother, Matthew, plays, as well as Richmond and Carlton.

Ryan Murphy, who, like Warnock, has not been an automatic selection in the seniors this year, due to team balance, is the other Victorian coming out of contract.

Mundy's manager Anthony McConville said yesterday that Mundy had put off talks until season's end.

"At this time, yes, that will be left until the end of the year," McConville said, confirming that the Dockers had been informed of Mundy's decision.

McConville said he expected other clubs to be interested in Mundy, who has been a mainstay of the Fremantle defence since he emerged as a quality player in 2006.

"There's no doubt there would be interest in David, but at this stage, David's preferring to focus on his football and let everything take care of itself at the end of the year."

McConville also manages Murphy, who was promoted back to the seniors for the past two games and has played three of the seven matches this season for only one goal.

"Fremantle are still working out their match-ups and, you know, their forward set-ups," McConville said of Murphy's situation.

"But obviously, they need to look at what they're doing from their point and I suppose we'll only know further down the track."

Mundy would be the clear priority signing for the Dockers, given his track record, his reliability and running capacity.

Mundy is 192 centimetres and has been at his best playing on the third tall forwards and then using his play-reading ability, run and poise to instigate counterattacks.

His performances across half-back in 2006 were instrumental in Fremantle's late-season charge and led him to be selected to play for Australia in the international rules series against Ireland later that year.

Originally from Seymour, Mundy was drafted by Fremantle with pick 19 in the 2003 draft.

He has played 71 games for the Dockers.

He made his debut in round five, 2005, and has not missed a game since.

yes id say go for it.

we should go for any player wanting to leave freo.

knowing their track record the player will end up being a gun.

what a rabble that club is at the moment...
Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

No we got too many ex freo players now & dont want thier losing culture to comeback onto us
we need to continue to find & breed our own players  :thumbsup its starting to work now with what we got in stock
They just need a few more years to be dominating the league cause our young side will become the most experienced side in the few years & commentators will be saying how good our experienced side is compared to younger sides
It worked for Geelong & was working for the Saints until they started topping up with rejects like Fiona Fiora  ;D & others
l feel we got the right rucks, midfielders, defenders & forwards at the club we just need some utility type players of the likes of Kingy with some mongrel in them but its going to take at least 3 years before we become dominating by going off the Cats

Kayne Pettifer for Mundy is fair
Mark Coughlan for Warnock is fair

I wouldnt be doing deals for picks lol.

Mundy is a good player, BUT - he plays as 3rd defender, we have 3rd defender options already, although Mundy would be a mark up on what we already have. Bowden is also 30 so we need someone to replace him. McGuane is headed for the GC in 2 years so yeah maybe if we are thinking long term, then Mundy becomes an instant solution.

Whats Warnock doing  ??? is he playing, l dont follow him cause l hate the dockers with a passion, l'm still celebrating with the money l won off my sinking anchor mates from weeks ago ;D
Warnock is 206cm at 94kg when you got 2 Richmond ruckmen comming in Graham 201cm at 96kg & Cartledge 201cm at 100kg both who ruck very well & then you got Patto 198cm at 96kg who play bigger than he is & carried the job well
Simmonds is in career best form, l cant remember a Richmond ruckmen last used for state games maybe General Mark Lee
One thing is we need to use the ruckmen we got to develope cause from what we seen this boys are winning at the centre at present & l dont want us to recruit young players & then not play them & they lose passion for the game

Mundy ... pass

Is a one paced 191cm 3rd tall defender, has decent skills, and has cemented his position in the Freo structure.

Just dont think he is what the Tigers need - another tall HBF when there is Thursty, Moore, Polak, McGuane, Schultz available for a similar role.

Would be a good pick-up for the Pies, so may open 3 way trade possibilities.

How about trading JON and or Danny Myer for Warnock, no way should we give up draft picks especially with the new sides coming into the league

I like the idea of getting Warnock I just worry about the cost in this crutial draft. If we could trade to get him I would be very pleased but I'm not sure JON or Meyer hold enough value at the moment. Maybe it would have to be someone like Angus Graham or Polak ;). I don't think anyone will be giving away any cheap picks or players during this years draft and trade. Not with the new teams pillaging the next few drafts the way they are :(

See you at the game on Saturday Camboon. Last year at this time I remeber predicting we would win the game....150+ point spanking later  :'(. Anyway anything under half taht will be acceptable. They are a sensational team.

hence the reason why trades are very difficult to arrange.

Coughlan has had 2 knee recos and OP, he hasnt played in 3 years, yet you reckon he is worth a astraight swap for a 206cm ruckman who is 21 with 12 years of his best ahead of him. The same player who has shown more than Cameron Wood ( who was traded for pick 14 last year) and this is a superdraft. Warnock will be traded for a late 1st rounder, early 2nd at least, you can bet on it

I agree with you that Mundy is superflious to our needs.

Warnock has played 14 games of footy and cant get a game a freo. Anyone giving up anything inside the first 40 picks in the National Draft needs there head read.

I think Murphy could potentially be more useful to our needs than Mundy.
A change of environment could do him a lot of good.
Would come cheap too.

The market determines the price.

If Cam Wood is worth pick 14, then Warnock isnt worth much less. Bookmark it :gotigers

Any board of the club that allows a 1st or 2nd round pick to be traded for a player like Warnock deserves to be turfed out by the members. The board should VETO this type of recruitment, like they should have VETOED the McMahon trade.

Cogs is broken again so may have to swap Pettifer or JON cause Cogs is worthless
