2008 Grand Final - Just another game...

This years final series had all the excitement and intensity of an average match,if that.
Just check some of the crap attendences.
My point is, Aussie rules has disappeared up its own ars mainly due to
the continual tinkering by the afl,wether it be rules or other such changes to better the game and take it
to the world.

What a soul-less Grand Final it was this year.

My interest in the game has been waning for a while.
I still luv my club but couldn't care less about the rest of it
I watched that game like I do every year, but it lacked so much
Thought the skills were ordinary, no great heroics or phenomenal performances like you'd expect from a GF.
I felt ripped off actually.

Much like Moi, im really only interested in RFC now.  Infact I missed the start of the GF because i was watching Tremors 2 on the sci fi channel.  Pretty sad i know but still better than that game.

I went down the shops in the middle of the game because we forgot the cheese for the hot dogs

I was at the gym for the first half of the game, just checked on the scores on the tvs there in between sets
Went home and sat out in the sun after that only listening to the commentary in the background

The Grand Final was decent as a game but the rest of the finals series was one-sided and dull.

GF crowds are not like 20 years ago either as they more neutral these days thanks to the average member who goes most weeks unable to get a ticket after all the theatregoers grab 'em  . The downturn and uncertainty of the world economy and higher prices would also put the average fan off paying for finals tickets. They aren't cheap for the average family.

I've been going to games for 43 years, so I've seen it all and am a bit ho hum
But you're still young
That is a worry that someone as young as you is feeling bored with the game
I just think the game is in overkill at the moment for some reason
Maybe becasue we talk about it morning, noon and night on here and elsewhere doesn't help

He's not someone you go to the footy to watch.

Ablett, Judd, Richo and Franklin off the top of my head are the only big drawcards in the AFL at the moment.

Collingwood versus Adelaide. It used to be Buckley v. Riccuito, this year it was Burns v. Goodwin.

We were spoiled with Carey, Lockett, Ablett Snr, Hird, Kouta and others.

Same with a lot of the games, Sydney and Kangaroos have no-one worth watching.

The AFL needs Carlton and Richmond in the finals.

As Moi said there is probably a bit of overkill. You can see every game every week if you want to thanks to foxtel. Go back 25 years ago and you were lucky to see a quarter of the best game for the week on a Saturday night plus some extended highlights of the other games on World of Sport.
