eat that boys.

this is what our club needs not effheads like Rawlings and King

I try to apply logic and reason to my posts and I have never ever done this on any topic before. But in this case I feel I just have to.

YOU ARE A KNOB Daniel161.

Now thats out of the way, as far As Campbell comming back I will (as always) give the guy a chance to prove himself as a coach at the RFC. I have no way to judge if he did a good job before at the Dogs so i will give him time. Personlly I was not a great fan of "Kick it to me" Campbell as a player but that is not bagging him as a coach. I dont think midfield was where we were beaten last year so its going to be hard to judge if he has made a difference to the style. I will however throw up if I see the likes of cotch and lids hanging out behind the player with the ball to get backward handball.
Here , kitty kitty. Here , kitty kitty.   AAAUGH!

some of your mates on here are the one who create angst.

few weeks ago people were bagging campo and now his back, lets watch them change their tune.

they were bagging Campbo under the premise he was taking over as head coach, something
that would still create a massive argument.

lets watch them change their tune.
There's a fat chance of that happening from me  :rollin
I won't be changing my tune.
I disliked Cambo last week, nothing's changed this week
Never liked him as a player, person, so I'm pretty sure I'll think he sucks as a coach as well
Gonna have to get the score on the board before he gets praise from me.
And yes, I'm biased, but stiff.

Hopefully he makes a positive impact, personally I cant see how 1 assistant coach is going to change much at Richmond.

One probably can't but collectively they can make or break.  There are so many intangibles that can only be judged in hindsight - the best you can do beforehand is run all the risk management procedures you have and trust them.  At least we are continually evolving as a football department - there has been a change of personnel in most TW years and that's a good thing.  One benefit of our young list is that very few of them have played with Campbell - I rate the 'mate' factor as crucial in a coaching environment ie.  I think it is counter-productive.  I have no idea (and not much of an opinion) of whether he will make a difference but I do trust the people in change to make these decisions for the right reasons with the right information.  I can't begin to understand or tolerate those (and you aren't one Ramps) with an immediate negative attitude to every single act that the club does - if we lose faith in the club then we lose the club itself.

My concerns with the club at the moment dont have anything to do with coaching appointments, rather Im concerned by other questions.

Are we still a big club?

How does our performance in trading and drafting match up with developing clubs like Carlton (who I consider to be a big club)?

Are we capable of matching Carlton and Hawthorn?

There are some things that are nagging at me at the moment in terms of how I perceive our club, and Im a bit concerned that we have trailed off a little bit. Even in the bad old days of the 90s till early 2000s when we were crap, we were still a big club, we would still be chasing big names.

Theres something thats not quite right at the moment, Richmond needs a bit of excitement, something to get the masses clammering to get to games.

Anyway back to the topic, Campbell has developed a good reputation as an assistant at the dogs, hopefully he can assist us.

We can't attract a big fish so we just have to get the best Richmond man for the job, not the best man.

You'd be surprised what abit of success does Ramps. It's been 28 years and counting as we all know. All it takes is a few astute selections in today's environment.
However I do agree with you in terms of parrallels with other clubs we are well behind in terms of the Pies Dons and Blues and unfortunantely the Hawks have well and truly passed us and possibly the rest of the aforementioned clubs. We may no longer be a big 4 club but a big 5 club sad but true. For us to make outlandish statements like 50000 members as the Hawks have we need at least a couple of flags with the list young enough to possibly deliver a few more. Then after that dynasty has gone we may be able to entice a big fish at the club.
In the last 15 years we almost got Lockett and Judd and missed out on both that unfortunantely suggests where we are perceived as a club unfortunantely from a generation of kids who have grown up knowing that RFC has been a loser club where turmoil and mediocrity go hand in hand.
Hopefully the Campbell appointment is b/c he was the best person available and not just a Richmond person who hapenned to play with Tony Free. Despite my reservations I wish him the best of luck and hope the good job he seemed to do at the Dogs is followed up at us.

I usually go to sleep reading your constant whinging and whining.  :D

I must have been asleep for the club trying to attract Judd in the last month.  ???

The club didn't try to attract Pelchen, Corcoran, Judd, Warnock, sponsors etc etc as an assistant coach - which is the topic.

As for nobody wanting to come to Punt Rd being a fact - well, facts are pretty much irrelevant for you.

Its not just assistant coaches, it's across the board
For assistants how about Buckley, Voss, Burns just for starters who've been aggressively headhunted by other clubs
Buckley hasn't gone anywhere yet, but we've now appointed our extra assistant so no chance of getting him now

Were they headhunted by Richmond?
Perhaps they think Campbell is the best available. Going by what Terry Wallace says about him, it seems likely.
