Not a lot between the 2007 and 2008 years.

This is one player who attracted a lot of opposition focus IMO due to the fact he was our first young attacking midfielders to break out.  With Lids, Cotch, Cuz and White all on the scene, Axel will benefit big time from reduced focus and should be able to reproduce his 2007 form.

Certainly looks the goods in the couple of games he's played this season.

Would think he really needs to work out how to shake a tag- struggled with that alot in 2008

Apart that a full compliment of games and perhaps a few more goals

Another reason Cuz will be so good for us, Axel can watch and learn and at the same time the opposition can't tag everyone.

On axel, yep he struggled big time last half of the year, good learning curve and expect him to figure it out and balance the season.

Just like last year, he will have a couple of down games when he is the prime focus of the oppositions #1 tagger, but they will be less frequent this year as there are too many others to worry about. Last year you could tell who got the tagger between Foley & Lids as there would often be a complete reversal of stats of the two week by week.

I think he will thrive this year, he appears on track so far to do so

A timely reminder that while we have some draftees turn out poorly, there are others which we have hit the jackpot on and Axel is one of those.

Yes, very interesting that those who just love to slam the recruiting failures make no attempt to balance their argument with recognition of the recruiting successes.  To think it is possible to get it right every time is one of football's great follies.

I thought he tailed off badly towards the end of '08. Like all of us here I'd love to see him reproduce his '07 form.
It's not just the emergence of those young mids that will help him either. It was interesting to see when they put Thompson in the middle against the pies, he is there to protect our little gun, don't worry about that.

Agree Smokey, but when you have 5 picks in the top 20 you'd want at least 3 of them to turn out for you!

At the risk of restarting WW3 which has already probably been done to death here on the 2004 draft, we have

Lids   Big tick   No brainer

Meyer Big Cross

Three in question with Tambling, Patto and Polo.  Of course peoples views vary and people would have some or all written off, regardless coming into their fifth season surely either this year or next the decision will be need to be made on their future.

Foley was picked up in the rookie draft of 2004.
McGuane also was selected in this draft
Adam Thomson effectively replaces Meyer as our other Top 20 pick in 04.

I reckon in the fullness of time, the 04 draft will work out okay. :santa

Foley was actually taken in the 2003 rookie draft
He was picked in the same rookie draft as Aaron Davey, possibly even the pick after him as we were interested in picking Davey also. I think we got the better player after all.

Not that it really matters Infamy but Foley was pick number 4 in the 2004 rookie draft and was elevated during the 2005 season.
Kelvin Moore was rookie listed in 2003 along with Adam Pickering and Matthew Shir.
2005 was Will Thursfield so the Tigers have a decent record from a modest number of picks due to cost cutting although we have dropped off he past 3 years with Jake King and Gus Graham the only players still on our list.
