Tiger trio offers a spark of hope

SIGNS of light yesterday broke through the storm clouds that have hovered over Punt Road with Richmond confirming that troubled recruit Ben Cousins and star midfielder Trent Cotchin are both likely to resume playing next week.
Cousins, Cotchin, and defender Andrew Raines are all likely to play for Coburg in the VFL against Box Hill next week.
Cousins, recovering from a hamstring strain suffered in his first game for Richmond in the opening-round clash against Carlton, will be allowed to gradually recover his match fitness with measured game time.
Likewise Cotchin, arguably the Tigers' best young player, is expected to need to play two or three VFL games to recover fitness after the Achilles injury that has troubled him, before being considered for senior selection.
Small forward Kane Pettifer also plays his first game today since a knee reconstruction, playing for Coburg seconds.
Tigers football manager Ross Monaghan said all three of Cousins, Cotchin and Raines were a strong chance to play for Coburg next week.
"Trent has been doing a lot of cross-training so his general fitness is pretty good, so we will wait and see how he goes before saying how many games he will need for Coburg before he comes back into the senior side," Monaghan said.
