Basically until every member of the 1980 premiership team dies or loses there power we wont get anywhere.
They exert too much influence on the board.
First the positves
For the first time in the modern era since 1983 probably we are actually being set up with state of the art facilities and with abusiness model that will result in the rfc having an income stream outside of football that will GUARANTEE the long term viability of the club. There is currently about $30 million dollars of works being done to upgrade our facilities ( punt Road $19m + craigeburn $10 m) . Of the money richmond will only have to chip in approx 2-2.5 million. So the club is raising 2m ( from us ) and we will get $30 m of facilities.
It will provide us huge income ( millions annually ) in signage, money from the indigenous centre, and catering, why do our corporate events at the MCG when we are only a short stroll away?
SO, off the field financially Steven Wright has to be commended, an amazing outstanding result, he ( and the board ) could not have done a better job, even better when you consider that Casey left us bankrupt. We will have two AFL sized grounds to train on, and the best facilities in the AFL, we have NEVER been is such a strong position off the field.
Now that we have money ( and will have money for the forseeable future ) we have clean out the football department, without money, this is critical, money has to come first ( especially when unlike the kangaroos we have a past players association that is disruptive and that makes our culltureof success or lack of it the worst in the AFL )
We need a new coach someone young in my opinion, I would not discount Ken Hinkley or brad Scott as I believe Buckley and Hardwick would not be interested, and to be honest I rate Hinkley and scott above them anyway. We need a whole new coaching panel, sweep the broom, and lets throw money at the 5 best assistant coaches in the country. craig mcrae can stay, the rest can go, especially royal king campbell and rawlings, not up to it,any of them.
In addition we need to spend $ 3 MILLION ayear on recruiting, we need 2 people in Sydney to take advantage of the nsw free kick that has been made available to the richer clubs who were resourced to take advantage of it. We need two have not 1 but 2 full time senior recruiters at each colts game in the wafl and the same in the junior games in SANFL. We need two full times in qld and at least 10 full time recruiters to cover the TAC cup every week. Thats the only way we are gunna get better regarding identifying the best talent.
We also need to sure up our medical division, weight gain has been a problem for our juniors for the last 20 years. Lets get a pharmisist in and fix that once and for all.
I dont really mind too much if we dont tank, but we have to take 10 untried and unexposed 18 yr old boys every year for the next three years. If we are to be poo at least lets be young.
Lastly we need a new director of football, Craig Cameron has shown he hasnt got the strength to stand up for his beliefs. Spending a 3rd and 4th round pick on Thomson and hislop and then backflipping on cousins means he hasnt got the authority to make a decision, or he just makes the wrong decisions, either way we need a stronger personality Pelchen would be ideal, pay him 1million a year and get him acrross. List management is critical.
