I believe that if Rawlings gets the caretaker job then that is all he will be be, a caretaker coach! I think we will get a new coach for next season!

Exactly why I think it's the best option. Give it to someone who has no chance of getting the job permanently so they can focus on playing the kids.  Not really a fan of any of the current assistants getting the job long term so I'd rather none of the real aspirants like Campbell get it.
