Summary

* When you enter this job you can't be anything other than a lover of the game.

* Matthews recalled when he took over from Bob Rose at Collingwood and asked Jade about how he felt on the moment he found out he was the caretaker coach?
Jade said the club was keen after the leaks in the previous weeks to keep the decision close to their chests. He was told in the Boardroom in front of the premiership cups. Yep was very excited.

* What was the main thing you wanted to get across to the group?
With all due respect to how things were done before I wanted to chuck what happened previously in the season and start with a clean slate. Two seasons and the second one starts now. Also wanted to get across that it wasn't about him and we had to move forward as a group. Jade said he also wanted to keep tactics basic so as not to overwhelm the playing group. The main thing to work on he felt was team defence. That our defence wasn't just the back six. He wanted to develop a mindset that the whole team needs to defend across the ground.

* Matthews said the top teams have the most inside 50s and vice vera. We are 2nd last and melbourne last for inside 50s.
Jade said that's true. Against West Coast we had 48 entries and won. We then had 27 vs St Kilda and 35 vs Adelaide. We felt we got trapped in defensive 50 against St Kilda. Worked on a few things against Adelaide and although our numbers were still down our efficiency once inside 50 was very good. So we know our forwards can convert very efficiently once it gets in there. It's now a matter of getting the ball inside 50 more often.

* Cotch fitness?
4/10. Trent would say 2. Trent, Connors and Jack set themselves for a big summer preseason but 2 of the 3 developed a achilles problem. Cotch trained better last week and he offensively was moving better during the game. However in transition he got found out.

* Expects in the coaching process he'll be judged on how he and team has gone/developed so far while he's been caretaker but it'll be pretty much the same process as everyone else. He's got to work hard on his presentation. He's not going to give up this opportunity lightly. He's been focussing on the short-term at the moment with the team.

* Jade joked about next week against North putting his brother-in-law Richo on his brother Brady or going the knuckle.
