Richmond forward Nathan Brown has been named vice-captain of Australia's International Rules team.

Coach Garry Lyon announced the news to the players on Friday afternoon ahead of a training session at Croke Park, where Australia will play Ireland in the first test on Sunday.

"He deserves it," Lyon said. "Nathan's a third year player who is always keen to play. He plays it really well and I just felt it was time to give him that responsibility and see what he can do."

Brown was one of the better players during the series in Australia last year, with then Ireland coach John O'Keefe saying that Brown would be a devastating Gaelic football player should he ever make the switch.

James Hird is the Australian captain.

Good 4 Nafan !!

LMAOOOOOOOOO@Garry Lyon believing his efforts at coaching a fantasy team in a game that doesn't exist
should speak volumes about his ablility to coach at afl level.

I hate the prik.

lmfaoooooo@Lyon basing his coaching reputation on getting a team worth millions of dollars just over the line against a bunch of pub-dwelling, deformed leprechauns!

Oh yeah, congrats to Browny, he rules the cross-bred game

Browny was the only one who could play this game. What a star  :thumbsup. So much for Gary Lyon boasting about this squad being the most adapt at playing IR and then breaking the record by a mile for getting thumped.

lol @ the Irish commentator calling Joel "Jo-El".

Message to Gary Lyon: There is only one AFL player who can play the GK role and that's our Chubba.

lmao at brown being a dead eye dick in front of goal with a round ball and never missing whereas he's 50/50 with an aussie rules ball at best.  Maybe he should change his approach and look to go for a snap shot off 2 steps when lining up from a set shot as he does in the international series.

LMAO at Bowden stopping to a standstill every time he gets the ball as opposed to the Irish who always bolt at 100 KPH.

Geez those Irish are quick and evasive.  Any chance of us recruiting 1 or 2 of them.

lmfaoooooo@ Bowden doing the moonwalk and moving backwards in his attempt to sprint forward.

lmfaooooooo@him being to lazy to get his leg up to kick the ball resulting in him dropping it and the Irish seizing posession

Garry Lyon has indicated this will be his last (international rules) series, and the early list for a new coach includes Stephen Silvagni, an assistant under Lyon, Danny Frawley and Peter Schwab.

Yeah nah....top of the day to ya laddy ;D
