I'm someone who believes we need a younger coach who can connect with our young list rather than us being a retirement home for legendary coaches who are on the wrong side of their prime. I'd rather spend the savings between their respective salaries in recruiting and player development. So I'd prefer the Club just focuses on the process with these younger coaches. Do we also want a side that crabs along the boundary?!  :-\

If it gets us in the finals? Yes!

Finals perhaps but what about a flag - hasn't gotten the Pies a flag in the last 10 years  :P

McGuire also said he was unconcerned about potential discussions between Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse and Richmond.

"I'm the president of Collingwood. I don't worry about anyone else," he said.

"[Malthouse] is contracted. His contract is under control."

At this point in time, I would just like to make the finals more than once every 15 years. So finals for four years running and being up there in contention is fine with me at this stage. I wanted our club to be hated again, not laughed at and, worst of all, pitied.

Interesting that it was mention today that most of the Collingwood footy dept staff was coming out of contract this year apart from Geoff Walsh. It seems the Pies are in limbo over what to do in 2010. As you say BJ and WP wanting their cake and eat it too.

Granted I like seeing my side win as much as any supporter, but what's the point of being in it just to make up the numbers?
What kind of example are we setting if we only expect sustained competitiveness?
If someone could guarantee a premiership every 10 years if you missed the finals for 8 of those 10 years then I'd take it every time (it also means we're about due for a threepeat)

WP who cares about FLAGS

LETS JUST MAKE FINALS FFS AND WORRY ABOUT THAT LATER

FFS we are the laughing stock of the AFL for the past 30 years.
Flags will come but Finals will shut everyone up for good and give us what we deserve.

If Malthouse is our man be very happy as he will take no passengers with him.

goodbye duds finally. Schulz, Mclovin, Petrified and Thompson can disappear into the sunset forever together

Surely Mick would walk for a 4 year deal at Tigerland if he is only guaranteed 2 at Collingwood ??
Most sane people would do it for their career and family.

Either way, if Mick ends up at Tigerland there will be such a fire in his belly to succeed and prove his worth over the upstart Buckley, that he will drag our club into finals and beyond any way he can.

We can't lose with this senerio -

  • Either we get Malthouse because the Pies only offer him a 2 year deal with a handover clause
  • We get Bucks because he waits for the Collingwood job and therefore goes through our full process while he is waiting and evetually chooses to take the Tigers job because we appear the more sort after/professional option
or
  • We delay the Roos process regardless of whether they secure Bucks or not enabling us to secure the best coach available with any competition from other clubs

As far as i'm concerned, it would be the sweetest revenge to announce Malthouse as our next coach this week and totally derail any chance the scum have of putting in a strong finals appearance in 2009.

Some of us still havent forgotten or forgiven them about Geoff Raines.

The way the Pies are going about this they could lose both Mick and Bucks. Mick isn't will to just move over for Bucks.

The sooner we leave the whole Collingwood vs Richmond thing, the better.

Malthouse is a pipe dream and not necessarily the answer. Ego has got our club into too much trouble over the years.
It's that simple Spud
