Royal on Joel:

On SEN Choco said they told Joel 4-5 weeks ago that he'll go back to Coburg and play a new role. He should be admired for it and he's been successful at it.

"He's been in really good form at Coburg playing multiple positions, playing midfield and playing forward, so no doubt tomorrow you'll be seeing him play those positions" Royal said on Friday morning.

As for Joel spending a month a Coburg - "I think what it does show is the depth of the Richmond Football Club was now at a stage where players don't get played continually who don't deserve opportunities. And that goes for the best player in the team down to our first year players."

ahahahahahaha  :lol

Anyway he is on his last legs. If it buckets down tomorrow and the game is hard and tough in the clinches due to the soggy ball expect Joel to be sitting on the pine or lining up for Coburg as the team the coaching staff and Joel will not be able to conceal his softness. Joel has not won a hard ball since the Monday night West Coast game in 1997.

Joel was dropping into the hole in front of the like of Brown and Lynch with a broken cheekbone. And won BF's and made the AA side in that period. To say he is not in our best XXII is abit stupid. He has his flaws but is skill one of our most class assets at the end of the day at this stage. The like of Tivendale and Howatt are nothing players, but I feel there is still a future @ RFC for Joel.

I think there is room in the side for a proper FF, Bowden or Hughes should take that role as the 6th/7th forward.

Thats just rubbish you wrote HT
has always puts his body on the line backing into packs
dont worry he will regain his form his always been a slow season starter & l'm sure you will have a different opinion come years end
you dont win 2 B&F being soft & can remember a supporter saying how weak he was on radio to Robert Walls
Wallsy shot the supporter down & every caller after that did the same
l'm suprised at you  >:(

at least today his body language showed some humility.
Usually it's macho bravado exuding from him as he dodges the HB.

The only problem I had was his "team-oriented" performance was more forced than natural. When he say Richie stream forward he really should have said no and gone back and take the set-shot. Instead he was fixed on the team-things and made a poor decision handing off to richie

cant blame Joel for Tamblings bad game
joel played very good for the conditions & assisted goals & kicked goals
those who missed goals Joel layed off to them were easy missed shots infact too easy

Bowden is back for good: Wallace

JOEL Bowden is back, and he's not about to go away again.

The Richmond dual best-and-fairest spent a month in the VFL before making his triumphant return to the ones, but as a forward who spent some time through the middle, not in his customary role as a running defender.

Coach Terry Wallace said there was no doubt about which level the 29-year-old would be playing at this weekend, as the Tigers face up to Essendon in the 'Dreamtime at the G' match.

"Look, I thought Joel played very well. I thought he was in our best half-a-dozen players last Saturday afternoon, and did his job, so there's no question about where he sits," Wallace said on Wednesday.

"He went back for four weeks to learn a new role, and showed clearly, coming back into the side, that he handled that role very well."

The members where I was gave a big cheer everytime Joel got the ball last week so he must have done okay. Joel hasn't been that popular in a long while. Usually he's the whipping boy along with Tivs.

Thought Joel played very well tonight as a hit up forward, also got back to lend support when we were under the pump.

Very happy with his new role on tonights performance.
