i find it bewildering that a anyone would think that a bloke whos back ground was a playuer manager would be installed into a position that he can override decisions made by those specificity paid to make those decisions.

following the line of thought that the general manager of football ultimately has the final say on all matters football, that would mean when he was a player manager, he made the decisions on how the players played or overode their wishes on contracts.

I dont think the players themselves have too much input into these things either, besides their putting forward their wish lists, which would normally be done through their managers BTW, otherwise barely any player would be delisted and everyone would be on long term high paying contracts.

A large part of Dans role is doing exactly what he did as a player manager, just he's changed sides.

Even if it was balme in the position, he wouldnt be able to overide the coach and list manager, otherwise why even bother with a list manager? and how laughable would it be for a coach to be told he must keep players he may not want and loose players he does want?

He has a completely different job - at ESP he was in a client service role, at Richmond he's the General Manager of Football. He's the boss so while I'd agree he isn't the List Manager as the stuffing GM of Football operations he'd have every right to ask why the stuffing hell we are giving Astbury 3 years. It would be like Dimma not being able to tell Jack what to do because he's never played forward.
exactly, or not telling jack what to do when he has the ball because jack has so much more talent and will make the right decision 95% of the time, rather than pass it off when he should be shooting for goal because some hack footballer has messed with his head about being more team oriented.

we have all seen the result of Dimma telling Jack what to do, and you want a bloke who'e history has been in client services role being able to dictate to someone who specialises in list management what to do?
( forget the who here, just focus on the role)

I'm not convinced that Boss is the correct term either, in whatever context you want to use it.

and further are you saying that when Dan was a players manager ( or players Boss, as you say) he didnt negotiate contracts, or that he doesnt do it now when you say the roles are different?

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Hardwick praised fellow Suns midfielder Jaeger O'Meara, who has requested a trade, but said the Tigers' list management strategy would stay strictly in-house.

Was set to nominate Richmond until about 5.30 yesterday evening.....though apparently the first seeds of doubt were sewn when the club re-signed Hamspud.....:shh

Figured he'd go to another club and still receive more hit outs to advantage from Hampson than all our mids

According to Fox Sports' Tania Armstrong, both Geelong and Essendon have shown interest in Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne.

David Swallow is reportedly open to a move to North Melbourne despite giving reassurances to Gold Coast previously, that he would see out his contract.

"We would love to have O'Meara at Essendon, absolutely." - John Worsfold on Channel Nine yesterday morning.

According to Tim Watson on SEN 1116, Chris Mayne to North Melbourne is a done deal.

Geelong would be willing to trade Steven Motlop if a suitable offer came up, according to SEN 1116's Brett Anderson.

According to SEN 1116's Brett Anderson there's a "good chance" GWS youngster Jack Steele will be in St Kilda colours next year.

If Steele ends up at St Kilda it is because he decided the future is brighter over there. We have been all over him since he was drafted but its not over just yet  :shh Barrett is another player we have been watching. Can play and is wanting opportunity.

What do people think Steele is worth? Is he worth our pick 6?

No one fear. All need to relax a little. People it's all going to be ok.

Why?

Because we have a war chest for the big fish.
We have DantheMan on the job signing, resigning, wheeling & dealing.
We have Betamax Jackson watching highlights as we speak.
We have BJ Hartley diligently looking at Port Adelaide's list.
We have Dumma, Lard & the development guru Chocco drawing arrows & lines along the boundary lines at Punt Road to help the boys know where to run to and deliver the ball.
We have the tackling gantry out on the pitch to hone the one handed stop-slap.
We have Benny & Peggy getting us the 16th best sponsorship package in the AFL.

Nothing to worry about.  :rollin
The club that keeps giving.
