Great game, can't be too critical but 50% accuracy needs to be better. But everything else was excellent.

A memorable 200th. Leading the Coleman tonight  :clapping.

Also kicked his 400th goal.

Shut up a few of the media critics too. Our problems have been further up the ground which has starved Tom. Tonight the ball was mostly in our forward half so Lynch had a day out.

Don't get many better opportunities to kick 10 than that.  Shame he posted 3 times when trying to snap from close range.

Another great game by lynchy (first half mainly), 27 goals from 8 games, leading the Coleman, presenting well, marking strongly what more could you ask for! Ok maybe stop missing the easy chances  :lol

Looking back on the thread, plenty are quick to pile up on him after a quiet performance, hopefully can give him some kudos on the back of his strong form.

He was been poor most of 2020-21. Being paid $1mil a year you'd want him to lift his game like he has.

Anyway I think he was great. Really should t have missed that first shot so could have had 7+ but honestly his marking and long range kicking today was fantastic.

Tigers monster in ‘rare form’ as $5m Pie ‘torn apart’

3. LYNCH‘S MONSTROUS HALF

It takes some sort of performance for goalkicking great Jason Dunstall to make the call that he did at half-time on Saturday afternoon.

“This big man Tom Lynch is tearing Darcy Moore to pieces,” he said.

“This is a first half from a key forward that you just don‘t see – 18 possessions, five goals and he’s missed two absolute sodas.

“It could nearly have been the best first half of football ever witnessed for a key forward, he was that good.”

Lynch started the match far from impressively in front of goal, missing some sitters, but he quickly became the clear standout on the field in a frightening performance.

His first quarter alone was mightily impressive, with Dunstall praising the 29-year-old‘s performance.

“Tom Lynch has been involved in every score the Tigers have had. It‘s interesting to have 10 disposals in the first quarter but only two of them have come from marks,” he said.

“He leads far and wide, he‘s dropped a couple he perhaps should’ve taken, but he butters up and gets a lot of the groundball. He’s causing all sorts of problems for Darcy Moore.”

Dunstall later added: “He’s in rare form, he’s going along beautifully.”

Those potential problems were flagged pre-game by Nick Riewoldt, who noted the Pies‘ intercepting defensive keys in Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe could be up against it with a forward line boasting two talls.

“At times your greatest strength as a player like Jeremy Howe or Darcy Moore to a lesser extent can be your greatest weakness,” he said.

“They want to read the ball and mark it and at times the leg-rope becomes so big that you almost invite the forward into a position where they‘re going to mark the footy.

“It‘s OK when you’ve got the game on your terms, but when you come up against a duo like Lynch and Riewoldt in the forward half Balta when he’s down there, it can be problematic.”

Lynch finished with 6.1 from a career-high 25 disposals. Most impressively, 14 of those 25 touches ended up in Tigers scores.

“He’s got to stop throwing up midfield numbers,” Tigers teammate Trent Cotchin said on Fox Footy with a smile post-game

“It’s amazing. He’s such a big man, but if we give him an opportunity one-in-one he’s going to be hard to beat.

“Darcy Moore has been hard to beat and has been for a long period of time, so to do what he did today against quality opposition shows the talent he has.”

Lynch told Fox Footy post-game he “just wanted to keep being a big presence in the air”.

“It was good. I managed to get a bit of space and get on the end of a couple,” Lynch told Fox Footy post-game.

“But up the field, the way our backs set up, they were just marking everything and getting it going on transition.”

I love lynch. I’m so bummed I missed out on this performance. My favourite game of his will always be the prelim against Geelong and on that 2019 season alone I feel every dollar well spent. Everything else from being Jack’s decoy, taking #1 key defenders is a bonus.

I feel like the “problems” with lynch is we completely nuffed our forward 50 entries in 2021 and from the sounds of things having a decent pressuring small forward actually made the fwd line functional.

It would be epic if he wins the coleman because I think he a) has the talent and b) would be a great middle finger to the media flogs who keep laying into him

PIES’ MISSING PIECE ‘THE DIFFERENCE’ FOUR YEARS AFTER SNUB

It was four years ago that Tom Lynch reportedly snubbed Collingwood in favour of Richmond after requesting a trade from the Gold Coast Suns.

And in the Tigers’ 27-point win over the Magpies on Saturday, Lynch was the “difference in the game,” according to Collingwood legend Nathan Buckley, behind a dominant six-goal performance.

It took Lynch to first on the Coleman Medal leaderboard with 27 goals through eight rounds as he gets back to his absolute best form.

Lynch booted 63 goals, 32 goals and 35 goals in his first three seasons respectively at the Tigers and played a key role in the club’s 2019 and 2020 premiership triumphs.

And while Richmond was already a powerhouse before Lynch’s arrival, his acquisition shows the value of a reliable key forward — particularly this season where Damien Hardwick’s side isn’t as strong in other areas.

The Pies have meanwhile long cried out for a star key forward — or just one that can take big contested marks — tinkering with several different attacking options in recent years.

Brody Mihocek has led Collingwood’s forward line admirably — on track to lead its goalkicking for a fourth-straight season — but the 192cm player isn’t a power forward per se, originally drafted as a defender.

And often the battering ramp for the Magpies up forward, Mihocek would only benefit from playing alongside a more dominant aerial option.

Indeed, it’s widely considered that a key forward is the missing piece for the Magpies and the type of player the club will undoubtedly be targeting on the market in the coming years.

So Collingwood’s first-hand encounter with Lynch’s masterclass on Saturday would’ve left it thinking, ‘what if?’

Despite a few yips, Lynch has so far been one of the most accurate top goalkickers this year.
