I personally don't like Free Agency.

I was against it when it was introduced, and my opinion hasn't changed. I have always felt that FA is not for the betterment of anyone except a very few superstar players.

I assume the big name Free Agents are almost certainly going to join stronger clubs because for the greater majority, the decision does not seem to be about money. It is about chasing some success.

Most of the gun players at successful clubs seem prepared to take unders to stay where they are, particularly where the culture is strong. The gun players at poorer clubs are hardly likely to go to another struggling club, even for more money.

So what does that leave. The odd player like Polec who gets an offer way out of proportion to what the are probably worth, and it could be argued he is going to a club looking for some success as well.

Imagine graduating high school and not having a choice who or where you work for, that’s what every player goes through. Footy players at the end of the day are employees and they should have a right like the rest of us to be able to move freely to another club whether that’s for money, success or a change of scenery.

Mick Warner says Gold Coast is considering matching the contract offered to Tom Lynch by Richmond.

It would force the Tigers to trade for the star forward, or face the prospect of losing him to another club in the draft.

“It would be a disaster for the Suns,” Warner said.

They won't get anything from us even approaching the pick 3 in a superdraft they'll get as compo - would just be pure grandstanding on their part and cutting off their nose to spite their face...should tell 'em to jam it and just walk away if that's the case.... :shh

I think we will give them Miles and maybe one other for basically nothing as a trade to further compensate them.

That is absolutely my understanding, there’s an underhanded agreement to trade on Miles and possibly BEllis as well for some stake knives.

Which would essentially make it pick 3 plus Ellis and Miles. Not the worst trade when all said and done.

I reckon B Ellis is worth a bit more than steak knives is the only thing.

So do I
I don't see Brandon going (others will go before him) but the Suns are carrying a few future picks from last year's trade period on top of their own picks:

Eagles' 1st rounder.
Essendon's 2nd rounder.
Geelong's 2nd rounder.
Freo's 3rd rounder.

We also have no 3rd round pick. So only two picks in the top 70. We need to find another decent pick.

So if we're more interested in gaining picks it could be either:
Trade Miles & B.Ellis for that late 1st rounder (wishful) or a second rounder.
or
Keep Ellis & trade Miles for "Freo's" 3rd rounder or the Suns' early 4th rounder.

This is true.  Maybe it will be Miles and Bellis to Suns for a 2nd round pick.  They will have plenty of first and second picks, particularly if theres a trade for May or Aaron Hall etc

Brandon Ellis is one of the worst players going around, can't understand any admiration for this fellow he is a useless liability. The team was sooo much better with out him against the Hawks.
