Flynn (AFL): There was no effort to minimise the contact. He has failed to exercise an appropriate duty of care. It's not at the lower end of carelessness when looking at rough conduct.

Nankervis executes a "stutter step", according to Tovey (Richmond), as he waits to see what Lloyd does with the ball. He is initially looking to "legitimately contest the ball" at the outset of the incident.

Tovey (Richmond) says contact between Nankervis and Lloyd was "inevitable", even though Nankervis ultimately made the wrong decision by making high contact.

Tovey (Richmond) says, if anything, there was a "slowing of momentum" from Nankervis. It's a "clear" breach of the duty of care but not "egregious".

Tovey (Richmond) says Nankervis could feel a "justifiable sense of grievance" if he is handed a four-match ban rather than three.

Flynn (AFL) says contact was only inevitable because Nankervis elected to bump.

Flynn (AFL) says the breach of the duty of care from Nankervis was "more egregious" than Jordan De Goey's when he bumped Elijah Hewett and received a three-match ban.

It's the same as what De Goey did. In fact, De Goey left the ground. Not sure how it was less egregious than what Nank did :huh3. Both equally stupid acts.

« Reply #1018 on: July 11, 2023, 05:49:00 PM »
We're back. Standby for verdict.

Toby Nankervis has been banned for three matches.

He’ll miss against West Coast, Hawthorn and Melbourne.

Fair enough for a stupid act. The Tribunal actually consistent for once :o. 4 weeks would've been overkill.

Having said that it makes the Mansell suspension even more ridiculous. Given the same penalty for a footy act where he simply protected himself as he was told to do.
