Not getting why the Bulldogs would be eyeing off 26 and 28. They only need the pick points value so the draft number is not relevant

26 & 28 = 1406
17 = 1025

With Lachie Young requesting a trade to Carlton, the Western Bulldogs are already thinking about securing his replacement in Hawthorn free agent Tim O'Brien.

Collingwood and Gold Coast are poised for a significant pick swap that will help the Magpies secure draft points to cover a bid for father-son Nick Daicos. AFL.com.au understands the Pies are set to land the Suns' picks 22, 46 and 58 in a trade for future selections in the second and third rounds.

Geelong or the Western Bulldogs could be a new home for Hawk Jonathon Ceglar.

Whispers:
The Tigers have replaced David Astbury in their backline by targeting North Melbourne veteran Robbie Tarrant on a two-year deal as an unrestricted free agent. It shows Richmond's mindset of again having a dip at the flag next year. The Tigers have lost Mabior Chol via free agency to Gold Coast while young key forward/ruck Callum Coleman-Jones has requested a trade to North Melbourne. The Tigers will push for a good pick from the Roos to add to an already very strong hand of selections. Richmond is interested in packaging up a couple of its early picks to move up the draft board, showing interest in the Suns' pick 3.

DOGS FIELDING OFFERS FOR PICK 17

Tom Morris reports...

The Western Bulldogs are fielding offers from at least two clubs for Pick 17.

Adelaide and Richmond are keen on the selection for different reasons.

The Crows would like to move up the draft order so they can use the pick on Jordan Dawson, while the Tigers are keen to package later selections to have more of a presence in the first round.

It remains to be seen whether Sydney would even accept Pick 17 for Dawson, though Adelaide and other list managers believe it’s about right for the 24-year-old.

Richmond’s draft hand – once Callum Coleman-Jones goes to North Melbourne – is very strong.

They currently have seven picks inside 47 that will becomes eight once the Roos and Tigers come to an agreement on the key forward.

Richmond would love to have a third first rounder and this is why they are eyeing off the Dogs Pick 17 to add to 7 and 15.

The Dogs will get picks back for Pat Lipinski (to Collingwood) and Lewis Young (to Carlton) once those deals go through.

From Foxsports' live trade chat:

Q. Will Richmond get pick 17 from the Bulldogs? No one has more to offer than Richmond..

David Zita: Think the more likely move would be trying to do a swap with the Suns for Pick 3 given how many draft picks they have and how few list spots at the same time.

Q. I wouldn't be surprised if Richmond tries to get Pick 3 from GCS as well, but surely trading with the Dogs' 17 makes the most sense for all of Richmond's late 2nd & early 3rd round picks. Gold Coast definitely don't need all those late picks, but the Dogs need points. less

Max Loughton: Agreed, they're one of the most logical trade partners for the Dogs.

Q. Richmond picks 7, 20 (assuming this is CCJ pick from North), 28, 38 and 42 for Picks 3 and 22 from Gold Coast.

Max Loughton: Gold Coast don't need extra picks. If anything they need to get rid of picks.

The swap of picks between Collingwood and Gold Coast flagged early today is imminent.

Gold Coast is sending picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future 4th to Collingwood for future 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks.

Deal Done.

The move gives Collingwood a much stronger hand to not only cover the points for an expected top-three bid for gun midfielder Daicos but also more capital to land trade targets Nathan Kreuger from Geelong and Patrick Lipinski from the Western Bulldogs.

Pick No.22 becomes Collingwood's first pick at this year's draft, meaning their hand will now be 22, 36, 41, 43, 46, 48, 58 and 79. No.79 is not worth any draft points in the AFL’s metrics but could become a lower pick on draft night once bids are made in the fluid draft order.

The Suns were willing to part with the picks this year and load up for next year's draft given their tight list and the unlikelihood of them using the selections at this year's intake. It gives them an extremely strong hand heading into next year, with the club currently holding all of its own picks for 2022 plus the Pies’ suite of selections.

----------------------

Hawthorn had also been interested in the salary dump move involving Macpherson, with the Hawks' offer including a bid to claim the Suns' pick No.3 amongst the swap.

Far-fetched I know but this was mentioned as the trade rumour on how we 'could' get picks 2 & 3.

1) Picks 7 & 15 for pick 2 assuming GWS want Mac Andrew who will still be available at 7.

2) 17 + future pick(s) for Gold Coast's pick 3.

'The Bulldogs have a lot of work to do to get the points to afford Sam Darcy. The club that's looking at their Pick 17 is Adelaide, because they need that for Jordan Dawson.'

Tyson Stengle has signalled his intent to get back to AFL level.

"I think I'm good enough," he said. "Obviously if you don't believe then you shouldn't go and play [AFL]. I believe and I want to go and play."

The 22-year-old was a chance to be included in the mid-season draft, with Collingwood and former club Richmond reportedly keeping tabs on him after his delisting.

Gold Coast's Darcy Macpherson is so far refusing a trade to North Melbourne.

It has been reported that Gold Coast are exploring a “salary dump” deal in which the contracted Macpherson and pick 19 would be sent to North if the Kangaroos footed the bill for the last year of McPherson’s back-ended contract.

But it can be revealed negotiations over the trade have also involved North handing future picks back to the Suns.

The Saints have interest in the Kangaroos big man Tristan Xerri as they search for someone to partner with Rowan Marshall beyond next season as Paddy Ryder’s retirement looms, reports the Herald Sun.

Sydney has renewed its interest in Peter Ladhams after a lunching a bid for him last year. Hawthorn are also interested.

Hawthorn have told Jonathan Ceglar to explore his opportunities elsewhere for 2022.

Hawthorn are cashed up from the Scully & Patton retirements and could pay a chunk of Tom Mitchell or Jack Gunston's salaries if they were to go to a new club. Coach Sam Mitchell wants to target the draft to accelerate their rebuild.

Luke Dunstan expected to get a life line at a Victorian club announced this week. Club unknown at this stage but expected to be one contending.

Geelong showing interest in Jonathan Ceglar.

Sam Powell-Pepper keen to return to Perth.

This trade week is full of duds or unproven talent wanting to move.  Either that or the very exiting pick swaps with no players invloved at all.  All this time and media spent talking about it.

Richmond is in an interesting position with a strong draft hand, but what will it do with seven picks inside 50?

@caltwomey and @rileybev break it down on Trade Exchange: https://twitter.com/AFLcomau/status/1445205360235585542

----------------------------------------------------

INTRIGUE SURROUNDS TIGERS

Richmond is shaping as one of the most interesting clubs of both the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period and next month’s NAB AFL Draft, according to AFL.com.au’s Cal Twomey.

The Tigers have seven picks inside the top 50, the first of which is pick No.7, with three more inside the top 28, with more picks around that mark possible if they execute a trade with North Melbourne for big man Callum Coleman-Jones.

"It’s unfamiliar for them and it is their first top 10 pick since Nick Vlastuin in 2012. He might be captain next year which shows you what a great pick that was," Twomey said.

North has the leverage with the Tigers in any trade dealings for Coleman-Jones because of the option to walk him to the pre-season draft.

Twomey said the Tigers have a great track record at finding players in the second and third rounds with Shai Bolton, the 29th pick in 2016 one of the “great selections”.

“They’re in a good position to benefit with those selections but they also have options. They’re in discussions with other clubs about pick swaps and they’ll take place for another week.”

"If I was Richmond, you're still in contention, I'd give up pick 15 for one of them."

- Matt Rendell on Mitchell, O'Meara, Gunston and Wingard.

"I do know that leading into the start of the trade period, pretty much every footy club knew if you wanted to get serious about it, it was a conversation worth having."

Richmond asked Adelaide if they could get involved in the Dawson trade to move up the draft order but the Crows said no to trading pick 4.
