Poor Cotchin
Plays a good game but misses the captains goal? Hack
Plays a poor game but chimes in with a captains goal? Hack
Was it a good game? No.
But I feel people are expecting Cotchin to do it all
He's not a kid anymore.
When the team isn't performing to standard it SHOULD always be the captain that wills them back to playing competitive team football demanding more from his teammates when the chips are down.
He should never be completely alone in this as all the leaders should be lifting and demanding more from playing by example and there exploits out on the field should reflect this.
Last night Cotchin looked like he was out of pace with the game, Reiwoldt looked lethargic, Maric looked old, Deledio looked unfit and Chaplin was at his fumbly best so Cotch wasn't alone in setting the standard of mediocrity.

Where was the "Richmond Way"?

I thought some of your earlier comments were a bit over the top but i agree with this.

plus you get bonus points for knowing the difference between he's and his!

Nowhere last night. We really needed someone to stand up in the clinches and he couldn't do it. Disappointing.

Too lenient Yeahright.

Hodge, Selwood, McVeigh, Pendlebury ring any bells.

Cotch was very quiet last night by his standards and those we expect if him to attain also weekly.

BTW Tigeritis this was the other Richmond way. The round 1-6 way.

hawthorn, geelong, sydney have had much stronger, or do have, sides than richmond

looks at the worse six players in those teams. now look at worst six in cotchins team

Yep - those other stars all actually have team mates who block, shepherd, run hard & create options for them and generally give them chop outs - something that Cotchin's rarely had.

Goal before half time was a great captain's goal but the remainder of his game was extremely poor

When we needed him to really stand up in the first 15 minutes in the 3rd and drag his team out of the mire he was MIA

As posted on another thread our leaders were shocking last night and Cotchin as head honcho in the leadership side of things deserves every whack coming his way he was terrible
Every time we loose without fail you blame the leaders. It's a really simplistic way of looking at things..
Cotch was down last night and so were most of the others. Cotch is the captain he is not a miracle worker. If our best 5 or 6 don't play well we loose. What about the other meatheads pick up the slack occasionally. It amazes me we win as many as we do with the lack of involvement from a 1/3 of the side most weeks. Footy is a team game and if you are a good side you share the load over 22 players. Not 5 or 6 "leaders"
The other thing that gets me when you question the leaders is other than the way they play, how else do you judge them? You don't know what is being said or what their rolls are on the day. What they have done in the lead up, nothing! All you can actually judge their leadership on is their form. Like a said it's really simplistic and naive way of looking at it.
Cotch is unlucky for the fact he is close to our best player if not our best. His leadership wouldn't be questioned every time we lost if he was a Domenic Cassisi type captain.

what do mean by a Domenic Cassisi type captain?
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

ah, now that clarifies things completely.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

Agree

But the Hawks also have outstanding leaders. Even Clarkson has said Hodge is like a coach out on the field. He has great ability to drag his team along when needed.

It's no coincidence that the top sides have strong leadership

You mention Lids? He is our Vice Capt, and he went missing last night as did the entire leadership group.

That's why I keeping banging on about our leaders going missing at crucial times, in big games. They need to take the next step in their leadership to enable us to take the next step as a team.

The entire side went missing last night! Blaming just the leaders is stupid. Going on what you say, if a leader, Cotch or Lids has a bad game, they have failed as a leader?
As I said before it's such a simplistic way to judge leadership
