Nice to see a kid kicking punts from those angles unlike some of the comedians you see these days snapping anything more than 10 degrees.

Richmond's Rising Star Sets 2023 Up For Success

Watch here: https://www.facebook.com/athletesauthority/videos/517027626545192/

Here’s an insight into Richmond FC’s young gun Jacob Bauer's session with us as he prepares for his first AFL pre-season.

After getting the mid-season call-up in 2022, he didn’t get the opportunity to prepare with the squad — he was straight into the thick of it.

He realised this off-season training was crucial if he wanted to play the best football of his career going into the 2023 season.

He knew that the gym would help him be:
✅ Faster to the ball.
✅ Stronger in the contest.

After being named as an emergency for the AFL side, 2022 mid-season rookie selection Jacob Bauer also impressed with 19 disposals and five marks, however, the key forward failed to hit the scoreboard.

Bauer power

AFL Media
1 July 2023

For the second time in a month, Jacob Bauer is the hero for Richmond’s VFL team with a match-winning, set-shot goal after the siren.

He did it against Greater Western Sydney at GIANTS Stadium in early June. And he repeated the dose in yesterday's clash with a formidable Brisbane outfit at Brighton Homes Arena.

After dominating down back for the first three quarters of the match, Bauer was again shifted forward by coach Steve Morris in a bid to provide the Tigers with a spark.

Bauer responded superbly with three final-term goals from the 18-minute mark onwards, including the post-siren match-winner following an excellent mark, to secure a one-point win for Richmond.

He told Richmond Media in a post-game interview how he approached that crucial set shot.

“Obviously I’ve been in that position before, so I just wanted to know if the siren was going to go. Take my time and I backed myself. I know I’ve got a good routine, so just make sure I do that and don’t take any short-cuts,” Bauer said.

The talented 21-year-old, who was recruited by the Tigers in the 2022 AFL mid-season rookie draft, also spoke about his growing status as a swingman within the team.

“Happy to do my job down back first. Pretty cool to be able to go and have an impact at both sides.

“It’s been something that I’ve been working on, and I’ve been doing pretty much my whole career.

“So, pretty happy with how I went today.”

Bauer was best on ground, finishing the match with 21 disposals, 11 marks and a game-high three goals.

Bring him in. Either play him as a second tall forward to help jack or an intercepting defender instead of young or a swing man who can do both. Either way surely he’s getting picked this week.

My read on Bauer is that he's not big enough to make it as a key forward/defender at AFL level, so he's caught between KP and being a flanker and a wingman but isn't quick or clever enough for that either. At least that's what our hierarchy believes.

After a performance like that, if he's not picked next week then you'd have to think he's never going to get a shot. But I wouldn't be picking him as the second tall, more as a third tall cum swing defender.

I think if you can mark like him then 192 or whatever he is, is tall enough. He can jump too. It’s not like we are asking him to play like lynch, just attack the contest and at worst bring the ball to ground ( if in the fwd line). The guy can obviously play

Nothing wrong with those Bayley Fritsch types that annoy the poos out of opposition supporters.

If he’s good enough he’ll keep his spot.

He deserves the opportunity
