So it appears the Aints havent got a replacement lined up

Reckon they will be going after lots of blokes. Not sure how many would want the job

Perhaps they should bring back Grant Thomas  ;D

Or make big Nick  :'( Reiwoldt Captain-Coach  ;D

The possibilities are endless  :rollin

I vote for Steven Milne

Edit: Can't even say the text removed in jest as it's before the courts and puts OER at legal risk.

Sacked St Kilda coach Scott Watters was doomed after extension was denied.

In truth it was a decision that had been building for the last six weeks of the season, influenced by poor relationships with players, assistant coaches and the board.

So what went wrong for this coach, who gave a presentation two years ago that blew away St Kilda's selection panel?

Many things, but in attempting to take control of this club he put too many noses out of joint.

Assistant coaches said he began taking every facet of training, effectively selecting the team by himself, and all but abandoning match committee at times.

Players who wondered if he had the match-day nous were enraged when he smashed them with a tirade about culture after they lit a dwarf on fire during Mad Monday.

They deserved condemnation and honest truths, but there is no doubt he lost players there and then.

Could he have got them back?

When those who had doubts came from Nick Riewoldt down, probably not.

St Kilda players who had achieved plenty under Ross Lyon felt he gave them no credit for their achievements in that time, as he attempted to rid the club of Lyon's tactics and legacy.

The whispering campaign became stronger as assistants, football managers and development coaches left the club.

Sources within St Kilda were telling the Herald Sun that they held Watters responsible for that exodus.

i like Choc dont get me wrong but if we lose him and they pick him without searching other candidates then they are more stupid than i thought.

Choco cant help that club. If Blight failed what chance does Choc have. The club is a cancer on the AFL and footballing public  and its times like i feel sorry for Lions supporters. IMO the AFL got rid of the wrong club.

They are trying to bring Thomas back in a role. He was actually a good coach you know. He turned that club around only for Lyon to come in and leave their list in chaos

Thomas voices Saints’ culture concerns
Matt Thompson

FORMER St Kilda coach Grant Thomas has questioned the culture of the club following the sacking of Scott Watters.

Watters, who'd been at the helm for two seasons, was dismissed on Friday morning.

Thomas said St Kilda had developed a tendency to "push success away," while admitting he's was unsure of the reasons for the decision to remove Watters.

"It's a cultural thing, and people hate that word, but I'm telling you I've had a long association with the St Kilda footy club that dates back to 1974," Thomas told AFL.com.au.

"I think I understand the place as well as anyone and we make these decisions on a monotonously regular basis and we become the laughing stock."

"We've either made poor decisions in terminations or poor decisions in appointments," Thomas said.

"All I will say is that St Kilda tends to make more of these decisions than most other elite AFL clubs."

While Thomas is not currently involved in AFL, the controversial ex- coach close maintains close connections to key people at St Kilda.

Watters departure follows the recent resignation of chief executive Michael Nettlefold and assistant coach Dean Laidley's exit on Thursday.

Thomas said the inability of the club to retain key players in recent years also concerned him.

"Significant players from Luke Ball, Brendon Goddard, Matt Maguire, McEvoy, DalSanto, these sort of guys, who'd all still be playing in the team, are no longer playing in the team," Thomas said.

"Those decisions concern me, but they only concern me because… I have a different view on how a successful, professional, respected AFL club is run," he said.

"It doesn't mean I'm right; I could be completely wrong."

Agree about the mess Lyon left the place in, 100% spot on there

Lyon? He's not list manager. He also has a coaching system that gets the best out of a playing group. Saints would still be in the 8 if Rossco was there. Goddard, Dal Santo & McEvoy would still be there too.

does it really matter how he left the place. Really?

A metre away from a GF win.

Got nothing to do with players attitiude, school girls, court cases, or the fact they are a complete rabble of an organization.

Thats a mess they create themselves.

What was the excuse in dropping thomas and blight again?

And Danny Frawley had nothing to do with list management either
