get this guy
-
Lol
-
Can we get him now? Before clearances close?
-
Yep get him for season 2018, important to plan that far out
Don't let the fact he is contracted for 2017 to the Dee's and hell would most likely need to freeze over b4 they trade him get in the way of planning for 2018 answer beyond
Nothing else to deal with right now I'm pretty sure

Would have thought it's pretty clear these days that contracts mean nothing. It's hardly a default position to argue
-
You're right contacts don't mean players can't be traded but like WP said, Melbourne would be very unlikely to trade him even he does want to leave.

War chest starting to rust, better start spending NOW!

Agree contracts mean little when both parties want a trade
But on this case, the contract means everything as the Dee's won't trade him
Seriously, would you?

Exactly wp

just refresh my memory WP who would be negotiating the potential recruit of Hogan or anyone else to fill this war chest??
is it the same guy who has netted us a plethora of club champions over the last few years

Last time I checked GWS refused to trade McCarthy and he is still on their list as a contracted player

Why would we want this selfish front runner anyway? He's played a couple of good games (two) & the rest of his career is toilet worthy. He's lazy, petulant, useless below his knees & heavily over-rated. I struggle to think of one thing he does consistently well other than drain Melbourne's salary cap ... :thumbsdown
Their problem, keep it that way ...

That bad huh

Well that's some sweet talent identification there Francis....
Kid's a star and will only get better.

And your point is what exactly?
Yes he is going to train with the WAFL Bulldogs which he has been given permission to do by his AFL club GWS
He wont' be playing for them, just training
-
Where do you predict he will play next year?
-
Where do you predict he will play next year?
I actually don't think he will play again for anyone
He is contracted to GWS until the end of 2017 so unless they relent and trade him he will remain a GWS until the end of his contract
And NO if I was GWS I wouldn't trade him either

So you wouldn't trade him and get something for him? Even if he refused to play for you? It's ok to prove a point for a year but if it's going to hurt your club they should do a trade and potentially get a very good pick for him IMO. Or a decent player.
Would you be happy to get nothing for Titch Edwards if he was deadset keen on returning to SA? Or would you try to broker a deal and at least have a say in what you get in return.
IMO AFL footy has changed and if players want to leave for whatever reason and you have done everything in your power to try and change their minds and failed, then do the best you can on the return deal. No point cutting off your nose despite your face.

Yep. I'm not sure 'taking a stand' with this endears yourself to the rest of the playing group either. Seems almost juvenile for mine. If it was apparent at trade time last year that it was unlikely he'd play for them again they've done themselves a disservice by not getting something in return. Pragmatism over pride.
-
The player must take responsibility as he had just signed a 2 tear contract. If he wanted to go, why sign on for 2 years?

Things change and situations change. And kids can change their minds. I'm sure you did when you were 20.
Why keep a player that doesn't want to be there? Get something for him and move on IMO.

I'm not sure I'd grab Hogan as you'd have to pay overs and his kicking isn't that great. He could be the next Richo, great mark out of bounds on the full form 15m out type player.
-
No wonder no one wants to come to this rabble, we will struggle to get anyone at the end of the season, unless its a nobody no one wants.
We will also struggle to hang on to Martin next time I think.
-
...and good luck getting Rance to put off his world trip next time....
-
While Hogan is ok we really need a beet er midfield and defense. Spend picks on a Chapman replacement and another fast mid.
-
Chapman doesn't play for us and retired last year anyway
