You're right contacts don't mean players can't be traded but like WP said, Melbourne would be very unlikely to trade him even he does want to leave.

Last time I checked GWS refused to trade McCarthy and he is still on their list as a contracted player

Why would we want this selfish front runner anyway?  He's played a couple of good games (two) & the rest of his career is toilet worthy.  He's lazy, petulant, useless below his knees & heavily over-rated.  I struggle to think of one thing he does consistently well other than drain Melbourne's salary cap ...
