January 28, 2016“JANUARY flyer, but April fool.”
Once upon a time this saying rung true about AFL’s pre-season..
Those burning up the track in the heat of summer, would go missing when the games arrive in the depths of winter.
However, with the increasing fitness demands placed on AFL footballers, a strong and uninterrupted pre-season is crucial to on-field success.
Any player that thrives on the field in 2016 will inevitably attribute this to his “best pre-season yet”.
With that in mind here’s the players TTHD (Training The House Down) or “burning up the track” at your club.
RICHMONDKANE Lambert’s story shows that persistence beats resistance, with the former mature-age rookie leaving his teammates in his wake at preseason training. Lambert led the pack for the majority of the Tigers’ 3km time trial, before being pipped by Brandon Ellis. However, he wouldn’t be passed in the 3x1km sprints.
Reece Conca needs a big season and he’s another who has been recognised by teammates.
Brett Deledio was flying until a minor calf problem intervened.
