Richo-bashing on SEN
« on: January 02, 2006, 01:11:40 AM »
Did anyone catch SEN a couple of nights ago around 9-10pm when one of their summer fill-ins decided to blame our past 10 years of failure on us holding onto Richo too long and not trading him after 2001 or 2002? No mention of anyone else at the RFC and he even claimed it would of been a good time to do it because we had Ottens around then ::).

It was meant to be about a 15 min review of footy in 2005 but turned into an hour and half of Richmond supporters ringing up and giving this guy heaps :thumbsup. They had to cancel half the planned show because of all the calls ;D.

I guess the argument would be that he played for himself and that other forwards can't play with him because Richo demands the entire forward 50.

Fact is its next to impossible for him to play for himself because he has to be given the ball first, and once he gets the ball all his supposed to do is kick a goal.

The forward 50 argument might have some merit, but fact is thanks to very inept game plans and lack of forward talent its basically been Richo vs the opposition defence for years.

Look what happened in 2005, decent coach, decent gameplan, and Richo and Brown were 2nd and 3rd in the goalkicking at about round 8-9, which basically defeats the argument that other forwards can't be successful playing with him.

Might have been a few other people thinking the same thing at the time :shh  And the only reason i thought that was because he was injury prone, a head case, rapidly ageing and he wasn't bringing us any premierships.  He would have still remained a tiger in my heart, but I thought at the time we needed to rebuild a list not just based on one individual.  And he's still here and, bless him, but we still have no premierships or finals appearances.

takes more that one man to win a premiership moi1 i expected better from u on this topic! how can u say richo hasnt bought us any premierships! we have more chances to win a cup with richo than without! to win a cup we need a coach, which we finally have, a team, which which we nearly have! and richo! which we've got!

::) ::)Wish people would get off Richo's case!  Other clubs would give a lot to have a player like Richo.  And I would rather have him playing for us than against us.  And Brad who?????

Richo only has to look like his going to kick a few goals and his got the entire back line worried about him. Other teams are not that fortunate

1995 - no he was recovering from a knee reco

2001 - yep he was there - led the AFL in total marks and blitzed the field in contested mark.

Richo missed most of 2000 with that shocking foot injury

::) ::)Wish people would get off Richo's case!  Other clubs would give a lot to have a player like Richo.  And I would rather have him playing for us than against us.  And Brad who?????

Spot on Julz :thumbsup :bow

The only Brad I know is the one currently playing for Australia - Hodge isn't it ;D

Unfortunately we suffered from his shortcomings.

His immature exhibitions during most of his career definitely had a momentously negative effect on
the performance of our team, not to mention the hand such behaviour had in cultivating a schit attitude within the club
amongst the players.

Last year ,imo, was the first year he played professionally at all levels.

I expect him to be even better this year.

 :thumbsup

There's nothing wrong with that line of thinking IMO as people are just taking their heart out of the equation and being realistic about Richo's faults and what he offers to the side and looking towards the future asking themselves will Richo still be around when we are seriously able to challenge for a flag unlike 95 and 2001. The problem I had with this guy the other night was putting the sole blame for our mediocrity onto us holding onto Richo too long with no mention of past coaching, recruiting and admin "efforts". It's a team game and if a club sucks at recruiting then it wouldn't matter if JC was at FF. We still would have traded away good picks for duds; we still wouldn't play finals and midfield passes would still be flying over his head or bouncing 6 feet in front of him.

This guy would say stupid things like we could of tried to trade Richo for say a young Pavlich after 2001 when we all know we could have had both Pavlich and Richo to begin with instead of Fiora  :scream. If we had tried to trade Richo back in 2001-2002 we still probably would have ended up with another Hudson or Houlihan given the mindset of those running the club at that time. It ain't Richo's fault that we traded away our first round pick in the 2001 superdraft because we paid teammates like Holland $$$ after only one good year resulting in Gale having to retire and us having to chase after another ready-made ruckman  ::).

Then there's the recruiter's knowledge of when a draft is strong or weak. Imagine trading Richo to the Saints for their number 1 pick at the end of 2002 and ending up with Goddard in return!  :o :help

It was just a totally ridiculous and overly-simplistic attitude this idiot had to the RFC's woes over the past 10 years.

Love him or hate him, Richo is the heart and soul of the Richmond Football Club.  In the museum only one other person has a larger file of photos, news clippings etc and that's Captain Blood himself.  And Jack Dyer was no angel himself!

No doubt about that Julz  :thumbsup. What's more over the last year or two his head has caught up with his heart on his sleeve on-field. Richo was fantastic last year and the team played its best footy in years thanks to Wallace's more team-orientated gameplan.
