Got what we deserved for that 'effort'. Too many Tiger passengers picking and choosing when to put in or not. Leaders/experienced players having too many costly brainfades. Smashed again in the centre clearances. Skill level back to the bad old days. We've gone from premiers to being the worst team in the comp in the space of nine months.
We all knew it was going to happen eventually.

Time to go the rebuild hopefully it doesn’t take us another 37 years.

Agree time to rebuild. We need to start the process now. Make a statement now. Drop Houli, McIntosh and George

Add our kicking was woeful eg Houli, McIntosh and Aarts. We failed to man up and gave them enormous space.

In 2018 we didnt win the flag but we put up a great title defence. Our defending of the crown this year is embarrassing. Just disappointed. Had a chance to 3peat gor the first time ever and our title defence is shot to pieces. At least have a crack! We not even doing that.

Was thinking this morning that our senior players look knackered, which is completely understandable. Four years of short preseasons, playing in bruising finals, being ‘the hunted’ every game. They need an extended summer break.

It's been so bad it reminds me of our midfield back in the 90s & 00s who could never hit Richo on the chest  :P.

Agreed. They finished the year at the end of October. It’s hard to be overly critical
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

AFL Report Card: Round 16

David Zita, Ben Cotton, Max Laughton and Ben Waterworth
Foxsports
5 July 2021

RICHMOND

Thursday night’s loss to the Suns was plain ugly for the yellow and black and puts their flag defence in tatters. Coming off last week’s horror 40-point loss to St Kilda, Tigers coach Damien Hardwick even declared that the they’d prepared for the Suns clash as their most important of the season. It’s fair to say he didn’t get the response he wanted. If the Tigers don’t look out they might even slide out of eighth place, currently sitting on equal points as the ninth-placed Dockers. Adding to their woes is more injury setbacks to Bachar Houli, Callum Coleman-Jones, Nick Vlasutin and Shane Edwards.

In the votes

It’s hard to find too many good performances from the Tigers other than Tom Lynch – who booted a game-high five goals and didn’t give up all night. His partner in crime up forward Jack Riewoldt battled hard but only converted one goal and three behinds. The syndesmosis injury blow to Houli really hurts given he was their leading disposal getter with 24.

Room for improvement

The loss of key defensive pair Nathan Broad and Noah Balta to syndesmosis injuries last week was always going to hurt Richmond’s back six and it showed here. If not for the Suns’ inaccuracies in front of goal, the Tigers could’ve and probably should’ve been blown out. The Tigers’ defence looked out of sorts and uncharacteristically disorganised – an area they have built their brand and recent success on.
