Tigers’ burning question: Were Richmond reeeeaaaaaaaally trying to win with some of their weird decisions during the Saints game?

Richmond has had an extremely positive season when you look at their 2025 campaign as a whole, but according to North Melbourne champion David King, there were some perplexing coaching decisions against the Saints from Adem Yze.

The first of those, was the way they handled star Saint Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera who got off the chain in the second half. “In the second half he just ran around and did what he liked. If you really want to win the game… you can stop this,” King began. “He just took control of this game. 22 disposals in the second half, 19 uncontested. They look for him at every opportunity. If Richmond really wanted to win it, if they really were absolutely hell bent on winning this game, they would’ve locked him away.”

Further to that, King wondered whether or not the Tigers missed a trick by not activating Steely Green as the substitute. “If they really wanted to win it, it was under a goal for the last 35 minutes of footy, they would’ve brought their sub on,” he said. “I’ve just got my doubts as to whether winning was the absolute prime focus on the day”.

I like that we have been reluctant to tag. I think it’s good to back in our system and players. Obviously we aren’t at the level yet where it works well but it’s good to build habits. Remember we rarely if ever tagged from 17-20

Didn't need to tag back then, we were a better side.

Ross tagged Merrett and Reid when those two games were hotly contested and we won.

Saints was a winnable game and we didn't bother with NWM. That tells me there was low strategic motivation to win.

We might best Norf but that's it and it doesn't really matter.

That bottom few is locked for sure.

We categorically will not make up 4 points AND 5% which is about 100+ points if we won't concede a single score over the next two weeks lmao.

Dons will either lose to Saints/Blues by a lot or win very narrowly.

We might win narrowly against Norf at best but we'll get absolutely slapped by Geelong.

So we can take 2+3 to the bank while we get a nice look at the Whitlock boy this weekend who they traded us P2 for :D

Efc can easy lose the next 3 games by 300 points and they will be motivated to

I think it encourages you to worry about the oppo more. The best teams don’t tag… since when did we look up to a hapless saints team anyway?

Ross has always been an ultra defensive coach so it’s no surprise he tagged.

IMO it’s similar to what Mitchell did at the hawks.. focussed on their own game knowing they would suffer defensively but it sped up the process.
