Gary Cameron was on club snorner. Director, Treasurer and also on our footy subcommittee.

Coach appointment - Wallace gave a 3-hour presentation. Asked him about matchday, match planning and off-season plans. Terry also gave his now famous power-point presentation. Said Wallace was very impressive in all areas. His marketing ability was the icing on the top.

Budget - Was in place a year ago. Hard to change it once it's decided upon. Revenue was the variable and corporate sponsorship didn't come through. He said they (the board) were transparent to everyone - they outlined our position in March, set a plan in April to appoint a replacement to Campbell, appointed CEO Steven Wright in June, Terry Wallace in August, etc.

Terry was full aware of the cuts needed to the footy department. Will use his experience from the dogs. May be some "job sharing".

Need to push our corporate sponsorship. Said we're traditionally a "people's club and not had the corporate dollar. Expecting Wallace signing on to help in this area. Finishing ninth hurt us - mediocrity breeding mediocrity. Having high draft picks may be the best thing that's happened.

Our new CEO Steven Wright was also interviewed:

Appointed in June. Said he wanted to do something for Richmond as he can't be a player or coach.

Been in the job 2 weeks.

Before starting he had a number of discussions with Wallace. They had similar thoughts and plans for Richmond.

Finances - Need to set realistic budgets that are met. Realises we won't win the flag so we need to be tight but allow for revenue growth. Since starting the job as CEO he's been going through each department line by line seeing that every dollar is being used.

Asked about alternative and them seeing the books. Said he's not going to get into politics. He's an employee of Richmond and that where his loyalty lies.

Believes you can't have long term success without good finances.

A friend of mine is a volunteer at Essendon - she tells me that they have an army of volunteers supervised by a few paid employees.

Do we use volunteers at Richmond - if so do we use them effectively? The thing that always amazes me about badly run football clubs is that they appear to ignore successful models of well run clubs - of which there are plenty.
