Thu, Jan 15, 09THE WESTERN Bulldogs' search for a major backer is over, announcing a multi-million dollar partnership with international company Mission Foods on Saturday.

Mission Foods has jumped into the kennel with a three-year deal worth an extraordinary $4.5 million, which will see significant signage rights both on and off the field.

It's a huge bonus for the Dogs after their preliminary final finish in 2008, an altitude training trip to the USA and an operating profit of more than $600,000. A profit of over $500,000 was made in 2007.

However, financial constraints have still impacted the club with president David Smorgon appealing to the League to improve its deal with Telstra Dome and football manager James Fantasia forced to forego two selections in December's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Mission Foods replaces the void left by LeasePlan, which ended its six-year relationship with the Dogs at the end of last season, and the Dogs' training facility at Whitten Oval will now be known as the Mission Elite Learning Centre.

Established in 1949, Mission Foods is one of the world’s leading flatbread and corn flour producers and is engaged primarily in the production, marketing, distribution and sale of tortillas, corn chips, wraps, flatbreads, corn and wheat flour.

Their operations span Mexico, the USA, Central and South America, the UK, Asia and now Australia and they export to 90 countries worldwide.

The world’s largest manufacturer of flatbreads and wraps, their partnership with the Dogs coincides with their product release onto Australian shelves.

"Mission Foods have chosen to partner with the Western Bulldogs to spearhead their launch into the Australian market place for the Mission brand," Smorgon said.

"The Bulldogs 09 mission started today with this announcement of our partnership with Mission Foods."

The signing leaves Richmond and Melbourne as the only two clubs without a major sponsor, something that is becoming ever harder to rectify given the current financial climate.

Richmond's general manager of commercial operations, Hamish McKenzie said: "We are in the process of assessing the merits of potential back-of-jumper sponsors and looking at several options that have been presented to us.

"We remain in a position where we still welcome sponsor enquiries be that for the back-of-jumper spot or other sponsorship opportunities."

Melbourne chief executive Cameron Schwab told Friday's Herald Sun that his club was edging closer to securing a sponsor.

if the dees nab a sponsor ahead of us then all those involved should immediately resign from their post.

How we could not nab a sponsor with the whole signing of cousins is beyond me.

A stuff.kin disgrace to be honest.
