How do we compare?

What ranking would you give our players and areas of the list now and on realistic potential?

Based on my rankings of our list below I feel that we have a -

  D+ ranked Backline with the potential to become a B+
B- ranked Midfield with the potential to become a A
D ranked Forwardline with the potential to become a B-
D- ranked Rucks with the potential to become a C+




Here is our current list - sorry if I have left anyone out 

Backline    Moore, McGuane, Thursfield, Polo, Newman, Edwards, Rance, Silvester, Schulz, Raines

Midfield     Lids, Foley, Cotchin, Tambling, Richo, Tuck, Jackson, Cousins, White, Collins, King, McMahon, Thomson

Forwards   Riewoldt, Morton, Nahas, Post, Hislop, Hughes, Gilligan, Gourdis, Petts, Polak

Rucks   Graham, Vickery, Patto, Browne, Putt, Simmonds





My Backline Rankings

If Scalett and Lake are an A+ and an F means fail/delist then i would say-

Moore is a C and probably will be a C
McGuane is a C+ and probably will be a B+
Thursfield C- and probably will be a B
Polo D- and probably will be a D+
Newman B- and probably will be a B
Edwards C and probably will be a B-
Rance C and probably will be a A-
Silvester D and probably will be a F
Schulz D+ and probably will be a C+
Raines C- and probably will be a F

So overall I would rate our backline a D+ with the potential to become a B-


My Midfield Rankings

If Ablett and Judd are an A+ and an F means fail/delist then i would say-

Lids is a A- and probably will be a A+
Foley is a B+ and probably will be a A-
Cotchin C- and probably will be a A+
Tambling B+ and probably will be a A-
Richo A and probably will be a F
Tuck C+ and probably will be a C+
Jackson C and probably will be a C
Cousins A and probably will be a A-
White D and probably will be a C+
Collins C and probably will be a B+
King D and probably will be a D
McMahon D+ and probably will be a F
Thomson D- and probably will be a C+

So overall I would rate our midfield a B- with the potential to become a A


My Forwardline Rankings

If N. Riewoldt and J. Brown are an A and an F means fail/delist then i would say-

Riewoldt is a C+ and probably will be a A-
Morton is a B and probably will be a A-
Nahas C and probably will be a B+
Post D+ and probably will be a A
Hislop D- and probably will be a C
Hughes F and probably will be a B   
Gilligan F and probably will be a C+
Gourdis F and probably will be a F
Petts D and probably will be a F
Polak D- and probably will be a F


So overall I would rate our midfield a D with the potential to become a B-



My Ruck Rankings

If Cox is an A+ and an F means fail/delist then i would say-

Gus is a D and probably will be a C
Vickery is a D and probably will be a A-
Patto D- and probably will be a D+
Browne F and probably will be a B-
Putt F and probably will be a F
Simmonds D and probably will be a F


So overall I would rate our midfield a D- with the potential to become a C+


So to me when see one potential A grade midfielder down from having a A/A+ midfield in the future but the best we can hope for is a B in our backline and forwardline and a C in our ruck division.  .

If you use the theory that a premiership team has 3 of their 4 areas of their team ranked A then, as we unfortunately all now realize, we still have a long way to go with recruiting and development to get there.

Right.   Cotchin probably should be a B/B-. I felt because he had such an injury interrupted season that he was only a C but you are correct, using the same rationale Collins has also had an injury interrupted season and hasn't the same natural talent that Cotch has.

Assuming my 'ratings' are correct we will have 4 A grade midfielders. Is that enough with all the rotations? Do you think Collins could become an A grader?

Looking at our backline there seems to be only one player that could become an A grader. IS this a problem or should we be focusing on the backline?

We have three potential A graders in our forwardline but with Post having the highest potential grade but also the biggest chance of failure too. Should we be playing Post, Hughes, Schulz or someone else in the forwardline to find our KPF  'A-grader'?

Our Rucks seem to have the lowest upside at the moment for mine. Vickery is the exception here but beyond him our stocks are very weak.

Anyway this is all just my assessment and attempt to predict where we have our strengths and weakness.

I cant believe Im saying this but is it time to think about Mark Seaby again.( but only if we can get him for next to nix)

For mind, Hughes will be an F. If we delist JON then surely the Cleaver should go too? But i do agree Stripes i want it to work too

I read the analysis of Melbourne v Richmond in today's HUN and it mentioned that all teams need to build there team off a good backline. Do we have that?

Can we get 2 A grade midfielders?

IS our forwardline last priority or first given its obvious weakness?
