Thanks for the season Tiges
« on: August 28, 2005, 06:06:24 PM »
Brave effort today by the Tiges but like the season so near yet so far. Skills but moreso decision making letting us down on crucial occasions. Late goals in the 3rd quarter and soft goals against wind to the Cats in the second the difference in the end.

Terry's tactics almost worked perfectly but I thought we should have tried to run the ball forward more against the wind and spot up players say 30m out. Then again Geelong were flooding back. And we probably should have had more long goals with the wind as anyone with a decent kick was easily getting 50m+. We needed two Bowdens. Ironically the conditions today would have suited Tivs (as long as he kicked long).

Our midfield at least matched there's unlike in round 1 when we got totally smashed.
Simmonds played well the further the game along. His last quarter was excellent. Topok on the responsibility.
Bowden and Johnson marshalled the troops well down back.
Lids surely has the rising star wrapped up. Just breaks open the play with his pace every time.
Sarge may make a defender after all.
I thought Newman shaded G.Ablett for most of the game.

Farewell Cambo :bow. You did yourself proud in your 297th game as you've always have throughout your career. Bad luck the boys couldn't just get over the line for you in your final game.

For the rest of the boys they can at least go into the preseason on the back of competitive efforts in the past month with a bit of confidence to get better.

Just to think, throw in the West Coast and Geelong games, some % and Browny not being injured, and we'd be in September!  :'(

Great season guys, onward and upward to 2006!
