Terry Wallace spoke to the Sport 927 breakfast team (Micky McGuane, Peter Donakin (sp?) ) yesterday morning after the club had it’s time trials around the Botanical Gardens:
http://www.sport927.com.au/gateway/Daily_Audio/Sound%20Grabs/TW_050106.asx* We had 7-8 blokes just get over the 13 min mark for the tan. Pleased with the way the guys came back after the break. Standouts were Hyde, Sugar, Razor (led the pack around the final bend and Terry said it a pretty fair effort for a 6' 5" bloke to run at that pace), White, Casserley, Polo and Jackson. Tezza was pleased there were a number of our youngsters leading the way.
* Browny, Richo and Chaffey didn't run and just did skill work at Punt Road.
* Wallace said Richo was someone who wants to everything all the time and we had problems with his knee blowing up last year. He's right and firing to go but we just want to keep him off the harder surfaces erring on the side of caution with his knee in the latter part of his career.
* Browny is progressing and improving with every session. He's come back well after having the pins taken out of his leg and he's kicking the ball around and starting to get lateral movement back into his action. He's also getting quicker with each training session but Wallace reiterated there's still 2-3 months to go. Tezza added that people underestimate Browny with his metrosexual image and clothing label. Browny is a legitimately genuinely tough and proud person who wants to return to his best. As supporters we were cheated from seeing Browny in career-best form for the whole season. Tezza's expectation are less than Browny's. Reckons he'll do better in 2007 but that's not what Browny is thinking. In terms of how we use him will depend on how Browny comes up. No fixed plans as yet. Medical staff say he's no more at risk at breaking his leg again than anyone else.
* Chaffs is alot better after the break and freer in his movements. "A heck of alot better" was Wallace's words.
* Tezza shocked the players into action in last year's preseason to help rebuild the boys shattered confidence. We were ready to play footy by Christmas. This year we've changed tact and had virtually all the boys complete the sessions on the track so far. Fitness wise they're fitter than last year comparing key indicators but not as ready footy-wise. Build up the latter over the next 2-3 months.
* Intra-club trial match in Ballarat (Feb
. Catch up with Northey who's coaching up there.
* No change in leadership personnel his year. Last year was very much coach-driven as it needed to be - setting down where the club was at and where it needed to go. That doesn't last long-term. Wallace now wants the players to take control of where they want their footy club to go in the future. Gave the boys the break to think about it and was going to discuss it again with them yesterday.
