With Andy Maher to taking 5 minutes to ask a question he ends up answering while asking it? No thanks.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Around 5.40pm I believe
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

from the song "Don't Walk Away" by Pat Benatar 1988 (Wide Awake In Dreamland)

Dimma was just on.

Summary:

* Collingwood 2022 - They have McRae and Leppa. So we know the style they like because it's the style we like. Use of forward handball. It's sustainable footy that Dimma likes. The Pies have a good blend of experience and youthful exuberance.

* Dusty - trained well over past two weeks. Expect him to be a little bit rusty but 50-60% of Dusty is better than 80% of the AFL population. There was a certain bounce in his step upon his return and for the Club as a whole. Never expected him to never come back but I wasn't walking in his shoes. Dusty loves competing - footy, cricket, basketball, whatever. Dusty is the worst cricketer Dimma has ever seen lol.

* Zurhaar incident - from the couch it looked a reportable incident but Dimma said he didn't see the head contact nor read the tribunal report. The better we teach kids to turn their body rather than lead with their head the better. We shouldn't be rewarding with free kicks players who lead with their head. Need to stamp it out of the game.

* Bolton - We have structured players with specific and important roles for the team (Kmac, George) as well as unstructured players (Dusty, Bolton). The latter are the more "more talented" players (Dimma corrected him lol). They have a bigger paddock to play with. You can't have too many of each. Need a balance between structure and flair.

* Dan Rioli - always a highly talented player but the role we had for him was a bit too structured running up and down the ground. Now he's at half-back in the Houli role it's more unstructured. Uses the ball well by hand and footy and wins the ball the back. Will only get better in Dimma's view as Dan has only scratched the surface.

* Gameplan tweaks? - The game continually evolves. Sides are folding back more now (Melbourne are elite at this). We have always been a forward half turnover side like Collingwood. You can handle losing one or two players but we've been losing whole lines which is very challenging. Every match this year we've been in games. We feel a best footy isn't too far away.

* West Coast - second time they have been undermanned but they keep putting a team out there which is a credit to them. Got overwhelming for them last week. Best thing about it though it gives kids games which benefits them. Like kids from East Perth that you've never ever heard of before.

I guess based on this assessment we should use different criteria to judge how we think players are performing - ie possessions vs tackles vs closing down space eh Claw?

Lol you need to learn when a coach is doing nothing but defend and protect his players which is noble but not very smart.

You mention three areas Possesions well they dont get a lot of em but you acknowledge that. Tackles lol McIntosh in particular has layed just two all year  and Castagna is going a just over two a game  its a furphy that either of them are tackling players.that would leave closing down space thats a role even you could perform and something just about every player in every team does.At the worst its something expected of all players.

I look at some of the horrid hacks and think how much better we could be by simply finding better skilled more rounded players rather than persevering with such limited ones.
