Best game he played was when he destroyed Port. Can't remember what year, but was during the dynasty.

That was 2019 , the game we were missing for big 4 . Rance , Jack , Cotch and Dusty .  Incredible that we won .

Horrible news. Was hoping he could get up for 1 final game and finish his career on field but not to be. What a gun this guy was on field, versatility absolutely pivotal in our success. Could shut down a teams best small at ground level and best tall in the air all in the same game. Always came across as a class act off field too.

Very sad news. A great player and clubman. His games against Charlie Cameron were highlights.

From Yze's presser today:

Grimes, who turns 33 next month and is also out of contract this year, has undergone back surgery and won't play again in 2024.

"He's a leader of our footy club and obviously a terrific player, and for his season to finish the way it has is really sad," Yze said.

"We'll work out what that looks like later in the year but right now our priority is about getting him healthy and getting him back on his feet.

"He'll make that decision (about whether to play on next season) later in the year, and so will we.

"We'll have that discussion with him, but we can see when he's not in the team how important he is to us."

No - need new voices from outside the club....let him go do an apprenticeship elsewhere first if that's his want....reckon he'll just concentrate on running his vineyard though once he's done...  :shh

Yze said a decision on three-time premiership defender Dylan Grimes’ playing future will be a “collaborative” call at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has managed just five games in 2024 because of a back injury and underwent surgery in June.

Grimes has since had complications with the injury and spent time away from the club.

If he can get back, he should play on.

Disagree. While I’m not convinced any of the young defenders we have will make it long term, for differing reasons, we’ve got Gibcus, blight, miller, young, brown with balta, broad and vlastuin there for experienced heads. That’s 8 tall/medium defenders we have on our list pre draft.

Grimesy has been a champion but has been on the decline since 2021. No shame in that but time to let the younger players sink or swim.
