Which hamstring? Has he torn both hamstrings or just one that keeps reappearing?

Richmond's Dylan Grimes cut down with a hamstring injury

    Michael Warner, Glenn McFarlane
    From: Sunday Herald Sun
    November 25, 2012

INJURY-plagued Richmond defender Dylan Grimes has suffered yet another setback with his dodgy hamstrings.

Grimes strained his troubled left hamstring at training on Friday and will have scans tomorrow to assess its severity.

"Dylan left the training track early during Friday's session, with soreness in his hamstring," club elite performance manager Peter Burge said.

"We will seek medical opinion in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury."

Grimes, 21, had been tearing up the pre-season before Friday's setback.

He suffered two hamstring injuries on the left leg this year before travelling to Germany to receive cutting-edge treatment with one of the world's foremost experts in soft-tissue injuries, Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

Geelong's Max Rooke made a similar trip in 2007, as did Richmond's Mark Coughlan in 2008.

In 2011, Grimes tore the tendon from his right hamstring in the Dreamtime at the 'G clash against Essendon.

Grimes has played just 17 games in three seasons but is considered one of the rising stars of the competition.

The Tigers hope he will form part of a strong defensive unit including Port Adelaide free agent Troy Chaplin, Alex Rance, Chris Newman, Bachar Houli, Jake Batchelor, Steve Morris and Ben Griffiths.

Concerns with Grimey's hammies and Griffs shoulders was one of the reasons I was advocating us getting Kristian Jaksch in the draft. We needed at least 1 really big KPP from this draft.

Strain? Hmmm surely that wouldn't be season let alone career ending

Let's wait for the scans and then go into meltdown  ;D

Tigers hopeful on Grimes
By Andrew Lowther
12:15 PM Sun 25 Nov, 2012

RICHMOND will learn as early as Monday the severity of a hamstring injury to rising star Dylan Grimes.

Grimes, 21, left training on Friday complaining of soreness in his hamstring.

The defender has been plagued by hamstring problems since being selected by the Tigers with pick 2 in the 2009 pre-season draft.

He has suffered hamstring injuries in the last two Dreamtime at the 'G matches.

In 2011, Grimes suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in the Dreamtime match against the Bombers.

In that instance, Grimes tore his hamstring off the bone.

Report says hamstring injuries on the slide

Grimes has played 17 games for the Tigers, including nine in 2012. His last game was in round 14 against Adelaide.

He travelled to Germany in July with the Tigers' strength and rehabilitation coach, Terry Condon, spending a week with world-renowned soft-tissue specialist Doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

The treatment involved Grimes being injected with actovegin, an extract of calf’s blood, and anti-inflammatory traumeel, in an effort to stimulate muscle repair.

It was similar treatment to that experienced by former Richmond midfielder Mark Coughlan and Geelong premiership player Max Rooke.

Despite the setbacks, Grimes is highly rated across the AFL and won nomination for the NAB AFL Rising Star award in round two.

The Tigers reported Grimes had been training strongly so far this pre-season before Friday's hiccup.

Grimes' brother Jack is co-captain of Melbourne.
