will they show how shocking his kicking is in his highlights package  lol

for a so calle dgun he could not kick thats why he will neve rbe a champion

and ppl back riewoldt who is a much better kick than richo

lol, if they showed richos f ups, the nite would never end lol

whata a dkhead, like there's a forward born every minute that will kick 800 in their career :lol...

ur the dh and just look at it in a biased way

richo was a great player, maybe it was just bad luck for him he played for us, but he is not in the champion status of a carey , ablett snr  dunstall lockett etc. yes he was a great player , but his deficiencies prevent him from being a champion

great club man, great player, great bloke, but not a champions, chokers are not champions

nahhh, njot a champion, so he is in the top 10 or 12 goalkickers of all time and just a good player and didnt even play FF his entire career...take a break from your bitter pills and go buy some perspective ya dill...His career stands him amongst the very elite players to have played this great game...Top 12 from more than 10,000 players that have been listed as afl/vfl players, and he's just good :lol...take it from me partner, don't join a debating club

i think u shouldnt join a debating club

richo was a great player no doubt but not a champion

he is not in the league of a dunstall, locket, carey, ablett , hart, lloyd, j brown, he is beneath them, they were champions, they stood up when needed, never choked

u r just biased, im not bitter u tool, im just realistic, i would have royxe gart as my preferred chf than richo and wane carey and j brown
richo is not as good as them and they are champions

Your a fool X, Richo will go down in hall of fame and will always be remembered. Much longer tha Brown and other so called champion players richo was a champion and you have no right to say he was not.. I believe being a young richmond fan he was the one to get me into the tigers with my mum buying a number 12 jumper and iFULLY believe he single handedly got soo many young people to support the Tigers when they needed.

SO he Bloody was a champion

3 things:-

*Popey, brilliant coverage, tried to think of a journo to compare to your report but simply cannot as you set a new benchmark. I look forward to the B&F report!
*Richo was a champion in every way of the word. A flag or 2 wouldve cemented it to everyone but that is not his fault
*X doesn't get it
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Pope, thanks for the update, awesome! Two things.......first, i am glad that there are some people on this site who admit that they have made a mistake on a player(re-Newman) well done, and second; i know three fiddy is alot of coin( I couldnt afford it, well justify it to the wife) but to mix with the players like that surely would would make for an ordinary meal and beer?

No worreis all, thought I'd share since I was lucky enough to get an invite along.

Newman was a favourite player of mine back years ago when he wore the number 1. His form before his broken leg was amazing and his comeback was first class. I think we can get a bit to "management" savvy when talking about the list and the future of the club. Chris talked about how he'd have given nearly anything to see the big feller Richo achieve more success. He also said he's not afraid of finishing his career without a single final (Hasn't played in 1 final yet as he was drafted in 01) as long he can see and experience and be a part of the clubs next premiership. He also made every effort to meet and great not only the girls in the short skirts but a lot of the elderly guests that made the trip. Has a lot of character and seeing in 2012 he'll be 30 I'm afraid that Chris may be too old to be in our next premiership. In saying that I don't agree that a trade for a 2nd or 3rd round gamble that may or may not come off is worth trading someone who represents the soul of your side and our club.

The night was fantastic. Great service everything well organized and everything went to plan, I can only assume. I've been to the cocktail night before and meet the players for free so I'm a bit uncomfortable saying the $350 can be justified by meeting the players. It was a great night, my first testimonial. It's just hard to justify the cost for $350, I can understand if someone said I paid $350 and felt a bit let down.

I also forgot to add I did shake the great man's hand, thanked and wished him all the best - mid dance floor whilst he had a red wine in hand. I'd be surprised if he was healthy this morning lol, Richo looked like he was having a great time.

Fair point Popey! Its great to see Newy getting around and mingling with the mere mortals! I still love the way he kissed his his jumper when he kicked that goal against the Hawks!
I reckon he is playing with a lot mental anguish off his mind! It could not have been a good year to skipper last season!

Nice wrap pope  :clapping

Just thought I would mention Richo turned up at the soacial club function at turd dome on Friday night.
At his hilarious best, he was asked who was the worst player he played on and proceeded to give Kepler Bradley the biggest pastinf I have heard an AFL player give another ! Like I said hilarious stuff.

Like I have said before, not much of a celebrity chaser and dont go looking for autographs but really want cho's, problem is everytime he is around he is swamped and I feel to stupid pushing in with all the kids and ferals. Maybe one day I will bump into him at the right time. :cheers

My mate literally did bump into him one night at Crown. Richo was coming out of the dunny as my mate was rushing in and he ran into him! My mate looked up at him and said,'' Gee, you really are a big f@#*er!" Richo just laughed and patted him in on the shoulder! My mate has loved him ever since!

Mates rate at top of Richo list
By Chris de Kretser, Daryl Timms
MON 07 JUN 2010, Page 072

THE Richmond faithful turned out in force for one last farewell to Matthew Richardson on Saturday night and the popular Tiger endeared himself to them even more by outlining his reason for playing football.

"It's the mates you make -- that's what footy's all about. The friendships that you have forever,'' Richardson told a crowd of 1800 with yellow and black in their veins.

The Tigers great was greeted by a standing ovation and the "Richo'' chant as he took the stage at the Melbourne Convention Centre's Plenary room.

Humbled by the reception, Richo said he missed playing as the club attempted to rebuild.

"You always get a bit better after you've retired,'' he joked.

Richardson was at pains to point out that the night was not a testimonial for himself but for Richmond.

"I'm not getting a cent and I hope the club makes plenty of money,'' he said.

Surrounded by his family, best friends, club legends and all the players on the current list, he paid tribute for the support they had given in him in his 282-game career.

He said his father, Alan "Bull'' Richardson was a life member of the club and played in a premiership, but never told him what to do.

"His only advice was to have my socks pulled up, my jumper tucked in and have a pair of clean footy boots,'' he said.

"I always followed that advice, although with the jumpers these days it was sometimes hard to keep them tucked in.''

He choked up when he praised his mum Diane for "how amazing you have been for our family''.

And he hailed his sister Samantha Rawlings -- "even though you didn't take my advice not to marry a footballer'' and his younger brother Andrew, who he said went to every game he played.

He thanked football artist Jamie Cooper for the painting that fetched $51,000 at the auction.

"I've never seen the guns looking better than that,'' he said of Cooper's depiction of his biceps.

The club presented Richo with a giant collage of him in action with the names of the 150 footballers who had played with him.

10 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT RICHO

- Peter Knights was his first senior coach at Devonport.
- He was a premature baby, weighing just 2.7kg (5lb 13oz).
- Loved his Lego as a kid.
- As a schoolboy he wanted to be an accountant.
- First drove through Melbourne at 17 on a Tasmanian driver's licence.
- Favorite drink is Malibu and pineapple.
- Has kicked the most goals at the MCG.
- Would like his nickname ? Hates being mistaken for Fraser Gehrig.
- Had a Delta Goodrem CD in his locker.

What they said
By Chris de Kretser, Daryl Timms
MON 07 JUN 2010, Herald-Sun, Page 072

"I used to love the fact that he used to crack it ... He had a passion for his footy club -- more passion for the game than anyone I ever watched.'' - Glenn Archer

"He was nursing a hammy and was in doubt to play one day, but came out and kicked 10 at the MCG.'' - Danny Frawley

"He had 20 possessions, including a surprising 11 handballs. He never had 11 handballs during the rest of his career.'' - Wayne Campbell

"I've never seen a guy with more broken bones and play with more needles.'' - Brendon Gale

"Any man who can kick 17,000 goals for Richmond with that kicking style has to be a legend -- just as anyone who can live in this town with that mullet hairdo is.'' - Sam Newman

"He'd want me to kick to him even when he was on the bench.'' - Nathan Bower

"He was OK as a housemate, but not when he became a landlord. He was a neat freak, folding his T-shirts and ironing his undies.''  Ben Harrison, Tigers teammate who shared a flat with Richo.

"If we try as hard as Matthew has in his career, we'll be all right today.'' - Joel Bowden, when asked to speak in the huddle before a milestone game.
