Richmond's own VFL Affiliate Team in 2011?
« on: April 23, 2010, 02:01:29 AM »
From BF:

Was watching AFL teams on fox sports and Liam Pickering mentioned that next year all clubs will have their own reserves team playing in a reserves competition
The VFL stays the VFL, while this is a a separate competition

if there was any substance to this at all, surely another media outlet would have picked up on it?

If they were going to make such a radical change then it would require a couple of years planning and preparation at the least.  Would be very public knowledge a year or 2 before it happened.  Probably a candidate for the worst rumour of 2010.

This has been a ongoing decussion between clubs & AFL for sometime now
Its what all clubs want is thier own reserves side for those without them.
They also want larger lists & the salary cap raised

You will find the Richmond will have there own reserves team. as soon as 2011.
This isnt a rumour.
The AFL are extremely keen to set up a reserves competition, which will include Adelaide and Port

Sounds good.  Would be great to have all of our players playing at the same standard.  Would we still be affiliated with a VFL club, so that if we have excessive injuries we can bring a few over, or would the playing list size increase?

Would like to know how they intend to fund it

No doubt most AFL Vic based clubs would like their own "reserves" side but under the current format the majority could not and cannot afford it; hence, the VFL alignment situation

New TV & media rights perhaps
Looking at $1 billion this time around, won't take much of that to form a reserves competition.

They say $500k per year per club, so that makes $37.5 million over 5 years out of $1 billion, under 4% of the total tv rights, not even including radio and internet.

i thought it was more along the lines of -

if u have the VFL as a richmond, collingwood etc. ressies league then what happens to the traditional VFL clubs ie. your port melbournes and sandys

i hope they do bring the AFL reserves teams back!

better opportunity for players to be looked at!

AFL reserves teams:

Adelaide, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda & Western.

12 team competition, top 6, 22 rounds, play everyone once! very good if you ask me!

Brisbane and Sydney should come in to make it 13-14 teams! Gold Coast, West Coast and Fremantle probably not now!

however, i am for every club having an AFL Reserves team running along side the Premiership Season!

all matches at all AFL venues or have alternitive grounds like; Visy Park, Craigieburn, etc.

makes should all matches are finished 90 minutes before the AFL match, so players can have a warm up before their match.

should change times to 2:30 (Afternoon), 8:00 (Friday Night), 1:30 (Early), 7:30 (Saturday Night), 6:00 (Twilight) for AFL matches.

AFL Reserves: 1:00pm, 3:30pm, 9am, 3pm, 1:30pm.

 :)

 :)

Essendon should be there instead of Brisbane.  I'm pretty sure Sydney and Brisbane have their own thing along the eastern coast.
