Player Number: 1905 687 (made up  :P)

Cameron Guthrie (19/08/92, 186cm, 79kg) (Calder Cannons)

We have gone with Guthrie. Daniel Gorringe and Kieran Harper were strongly considered. Selected Guthrie who is a strong-minded midfielder who would push into our midfield nicely. Time to blood more kids into our midfield.

"Cameron won our best and fairest and he's the type of kid who will play any position the coach asks him to - that's his talent. At AFL level I see him being playing somewhere between half back and half forward because he's certainly got the discipline and smarts to play a lock down role on players and then he can go forward and kick four goals a quarter which he showed in one of the finals. Just a terrific player and has skills I'd rate in the top 20 in the competition." Calder Cannons Coach Martin Allison

Daniel Gorringe
Gorringe was a standout at both the NAB AFL Combine and the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships. At the Combine he showed a remarkable ability to run, kick, mark and handpass. During the championships he managed an unbelievable 105 hitouts, as well as 10 disposals a game and four goals

If this guy get to this pick something has gone wrong.

Dammit, with everyone focussing on midfielders and forwards I was hoping Gorringe would slip just one more pick, Port Adelaide would drop their pants and run around the draft room if he slipped through to 16. If we're being honest there is no way he will get passed Gold Coast, Top 10 most likely.

Now this isn't who I'd take next, but is probably the best option for Port Adelaide. I'd even written an entire bio on another player but when looking at their list changed my mind at the last minute as they already have so many players in the 191-199cm range.

Pick 16. Scott Lycett (202cm/97kg)

Other than Gorringe, Lycett is the other ruckman who looks to go early in the 2010 draft. He's the tallest of the top ruckmen in the draft and has a bigger frame than Gorringe too. He's very agile for his size with a good kick & mark plus a quality work ethic. Other than Brogan, Port only have 2 other players on their list at 200cm or above. They took Redden back in 2008 but he hasn't debuted in the AFL yet, so another ruckman looks like what they'd need. They'd like that he's a local SA boy too.

With Pick 17, North Melbourne would like to select Billie Smedts.

Height: 189cm
Weight: 76kg
DOB: 08/06/92
Club: Geelong Falcons (Vic)

We are looking for someone with mobility and composure who can run off the back flanks and provide good delivery inside 50.
We believe he will also be versatile enough to move forward as an attacking option when required.

I can't believe this kid made it to 17 but We'll take him with open arms.  :thumbsup

Pick #18

Carlton - Pat McCarthy

Glenelg / 194cm / 84kg

I'm going to finally steer Carlton and Wayne Hughes away from taking midfielders and snap up this very promising defender. Good height and should fill out nicely.

Pat is an athletic tall defender who can also go forward. He is a neat disposer of the ball and provides good rebound from defence. He won All-Australian under-18 honours this year, and averaged 17 disposals at 70 per cent efficiency.

Strengths as a footballer - Skills by foot and hand, and decision-making with the ball and reading the play without the ball.

Favourite music - Limp Bizkit, Demis Roussos and Susan Boyle

Pick 19 - Ben Jacobs

Height: 186cm
Weight: 82kg
DOB: 09/01/92
Club: Sandringham Dragons (Vic)

Took the Hawks a millisecond to call out his name.
A penetrating kick and strong mark, this left footed AA utility averaged 29 disposals at 69 per cent efficiency at the recent National Champs, including a 47 possession game for Vic Metro vs SA.

Fremantle choose Seb Tape SA
Backman who is talented with the footy and has the ability to beat his opponent consistently. Tape is 191cm which is just tall enough for a key defender at AFL level however he will give away some height against some talls which could hurt him. However Tape plays composed and looks like a player who will fit into the Dockers system pretty well. Replace Tarrant and may turn out as good as Jamie Tape.

With pick #21 the Swans will take Keiran Harper.  A classy goal kicking left footer who has pace and a lot of potential.  He is tall enough to be dangerous overhead and will complement Jetta very nicely - will make the Swans forward line very hard to match up in the coming years.  Under the Swans culture of hard work and team first he can develop into a match winner so they are very happy to get him with this pick.

Pick #22

Western Bulldogs - Mitch Wallis

Calder Cannons / 185cm / 79kg

With our first father-son pick, Western Bulldogs take Mitch Wallis, son of Steve Wallis.

Mitch posesses amazing pace and agility as well as excellent hand-passing skills and a decent kick.

He captained Vic Metro in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships, where he averaged 28 disposals at 83 per cent efficiency in three matches.  He will be an integral part of the new breed of Bulldogs that are coming in.

Reece Conca(18, midfielder, Perth WA)
Impressively skilled player from WA, with a strong body and a great ability to win the contested ball. His ability to run and carry and his football smarts were prominent in representing WA at the Under-18 Championships this year. Averaged 18 disposals at 79 per cent efficiency
