Richmond has appointed former Collingwood defender Jack Madgen as the Club’s new VFL coach, taking over from Jake Batchelor.

Madgen played 49 AFL games for Collingwood between 2018 and 2022 after being recruited as a Category B Rookie from the Cairns Taipans (NBL).

The 32-year-old has since been captain of Adelaide’s SANFL team, playing 53 games across the past three years.

Madgen has also been the Head Coach of the Crows Boys Academies and a line coach for their successful AFLW team.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Performance, Tim Livingstone, said that Madgen had well-rounded coaching credentials and was an excellent fit for the role.

“Jack has great experience both as an AFL and State League player and coaching at the elite level with the Crows AFLW," Livingstone said.

“He also has strong history in the development space, working with young teammates at the SANFL Crows and talented young players through the Adelaide Academy.

“Through both basketball and football, he has been around high-performance environments for an extended period, and we are excited about the impact he will be able to have on our VFL program.

“We welcome Jack and his family, wife Heidi, and children Izzy and Spencer to Richmond.”
