Former division one college basketball player Ned Renfree has committed to Richmond’s VFL program for 2026, bringing his trademark competitiveness to the Swinburne Centre.

Hailing from Ballarat, Victoria, Renfree grew up playing football, where he rose through the talent pathways and represented the GWV Rebels alongside Sam Lalor and Jonty Faull.

Renfree also represented Australia as a junior basketballer, which led him to pursue an opportunity overseas, where he joined the Milwaukee Panthers for the 2025/26 college basketball season.

However, the 19-year-old has now returned to footy and is looking to make an immediate impact within the program.

Standing at 188cm tall, the explosive forward combines speed, athleticism and power with an elite aerial marking skill set.

Richmond’s VFL side has gone from strength to strength with the signing of key defender/ruckman Zaydyn Lockwood.

Standing at 198cm tall, Lockwood offers versatility, using his elite overhead marking and leaping ability to play across multiple positions.

Having represented the Bendigo Pioneers in the Coates Talent League for the past two seasons, the 20-year-old looks forward to taking the next step and competing at the VFL level.

Richmond’s VFL program has added another string to its bow with the inclusion of key forward/ruckman Daniel Lowther.

Standing at 199cm tall, the Geelong Falcons product arrives at the Swinburne Centre boasting an elite marking ability and a proven talent for kicking goals.

After kicking 18 goals in just 13 games last year, Lowther played a key role in helping the Falcons secure the minor premiership. His standout season was further rewarded with an invite to the state draft combine.

“I just finished up at the Geelong Falcons down in the Coates Talent League, then I went back as a 19-year-old in 2025, and then Ollie Grant (from Richmond's recruiting team) gave me a call and said they would be keen to get me down,” Lowther told Richmond Media.

“It was just a no-brainer to choose Richmond as my VFL club.”

Richmond VFL is delighted to confirm the signing of 19-year-old Aaron Sharkie, who put pen to paper with the program over the summer.

The running defender, who also has experience in the midfield, is known for his elite work rate and endurance, which helps him stand out against opponents.

Endurance is what makes the 184cm defender a worry for opposition, and also allows him to find the ball and rack up possessions across four quarters regularly.

Also known for his transitional play, Sharkie takes off at high speeds, able to carry the ball forward and impact the scoreboard, making him a threat in both attack and defence.

During his 2025 campaign with the Oakleigh Chargers, where he played just nine matches, the 19-year-old was able to collect 11 clearances and lay an impressive 31 tackles, highlighting his ability to be multi-faceted across the ground.

Richmond's 2026 VFL fixture revealed

The Tigers' 2026 VFL fixture has been locked in.

By Richmond Media
Feb 11, 2026, 11:55 am

Richmond’s blockbuster 2026 VFL fixture has been confirmed, with the Tigers’ path to another September campaign now set.

Jack Madgen’s first game in charge as VFL coach is set for Saturday, March 21, against last season’s Grand Finalists, Southport. The contest will be played at Kinetic Stadium at 12:05pm.

Richmond then plays Coburg and St Kilda in Rounds 2 and 3, respectively, before two weeks without home-and-away fixtures.

The league will pause during the AFL's Gather Round for the State Game between the VFL and SANFL. The following week Richmond has a bye, which will be filled by the Tigers facing off against the AFL Academy team on Sunday, April 19, with further details to be confirmed.

ichmond returns to VFL home-and-away action on Anzac Day against Casey at 1:05pm, the day after the AFL blockbuster between the Tigers and Demons.

A Friday night battle in Frankston against the Dolphins is slated for May 1, before away clashes against Williamstown and Box Hill.

The Tigers and Bombers will meet in Round 9 on Saturday, May 23, at ETU Stadium, the day after the traditional Dreamtime at the ‘G game between the AFL sides.

Richmond will then hit the road, facing the Sydney Swans at Tramway Oval on Saturday, May 30, just hours before the same two teams meet in the AFL at the SCG.

A bye follows, before the Tigers travel to Tasmania for an exciting clash with the Devils at Launceston’s UTAS Stadium on Saturday, June 13. Richmond’s AFL team hosts Brisbane the next day in Hobart, making it a weekend full of Tigers football in the Apple Isle.

After the interstate trips, Richmond returns to ETU Stadium against North Melbourne on Sunday, June 21.

The dates, times and venues for Rounds 14-21 are yet to be confirmed, with the Tigers scheduled to face Collingwood, Carlton, Geelong, Box Hill, Footscray, Port Melbourne and St Kilda to close out the season.

The VFL campaign will feature 21 home-and-away rounds, with every club to play 18 matches and have three byes.

The top 10 teams on the ladder at the conclusion of the home-and-away season will qualify for the finals series, which will commence with two Wildcard Finals on the weekend of August 22-23.

The finals series will again be played across five weeks and will conclude with the 2026 Smithy’s VFL Grand Final on the weekend of September 19-20.

VFL: talented Waylon Davey-Motlop has joined Richmond's preseason (late!) after a stint in the NTFL. Was at Glenelg  last year and is back in Melbourne. The Tigers don't miss much.
