work out who need a rest for the next 2 or 3 weeks and give them the job.

Four Tiger changes

By richmondfc.com.au
Exclusive to richmondfc.com.au 6:00pm AEST Thursday, April 25, 2013

Richmond has made four changes for Friday night’s Round 5 clash with Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

The Tigers’ first pick (No. 9 overall) in the 2012 AFL National Draft, Nick Vlastuin, will make his AFL debut.

Vlastuin, a talented, tough, inside midfielder, who captained Vic Metro in last year’s national under-18 championships, has been knocking on the door of senior selection since showing impressive form with the Tigers in the league’s pre-season competition.

Another promising, young Richmond midfielder, Brad Helbig, has been recalled to the side after a string of strong performances at VFL level with Coburg.

Helbig, who was sidelined for a lengthy period last season with a torn ligament in his left foot, has played a total of 15 league games since debuting in 2011.

Also returning to the Tigers’ line-up for the match against the Dockers are running, left-foot defender Jake Batchelor and speedy utility Matthew White.

Those four players replace Steven Morris (suspended), Troy Chaplin (calf injury), Reece Conca (foot injury) and Shane Tuck (rested).

So Tuck has been dropped because he doesn't work back defensively and he doesn't look for players running past and just kicks long.

Is Chaplin out because of a calf or his concussion???

God help us all if Hannath tears us a new one.  Claw will be unbearable!   ;D
na im over it.
i just felt hannath was well worth giving a game to. i prefered a 21 yr old over a 30 yr old in stephenson. in all honesty we probably should have taken both hannath and sephenson.

just on the big o i really think he should be playing this game. i also think griffiths should be too.
how short is the backline definately one tall short. you can bet both hannath and griffen will rest forward.
would take nahas over white and every one knows im no fan of nahas.
really pleased to see vlastuin and helbig get a game. would have played dea instead of batchelor.

really shocked tuck is not playing we wont win the clearances without him and why drop your biggest mid against a side that boasts many big mids.
looking at the named teams heres a possible matchup scenario and  like for like match ups..

B/ spurr 182/83 dawson 197/93 - johnson 195/90
F/ edwards 182/83 - vickery 200/97 - mcguane 192/92

HB/ pearce 182/89 - mcpharlin 192/92 - duffield 188/86
HF/ jackson 188/92 - riewoldt 195/95 - deledio 188/88

C/ mzungu 182/84 - crowley 188/89 - pearce 178/80
C/ newman 183/81 - cotchin 185/85 - white 180/84

HF/ ballantyne 174/78 - bradley 198/100 - fyfe 190/88
HB/ houli 180/84 -  rance 194/96 - petterd 185/85

F/ hannath 201/102 - mayne 188/87 - walters 177/77
B/ grimes 193/88 - batchelor 188/87 - helbig 185/85

R/ griffen 201/102 - mundy 192/91 - hill 182/82
R/ maric 200/102 - martin 187/89 - vlaustin 187/86

INT/neale 176/81- ibbotson 186/86 - deboar 186/85 - barlow 189/91. cant believe they will start barlow as a sub. i hope they do.
INT/ king 178/82 - ellis 181/81 - knights 184/84 - grigg 190/85

IMO clearly one tall defender shy they want to hope that 1/ rance and grimes can stand up and dont get hurt and 2/ they dont have to make changes.  team also lacks  a heap of polish.on every line there is a poor kick or deision maker two in some cases. in a like for like i reckon they have us covered  have more options and better structure..

What tall 2 backs to cover 2 tall forwards isn't good enough? Need 3 to cover the 2? What about when we play teams with 3 tall forwards, do we play 4 tall backs?

mate you should learn from other sides most go with 3 genuine talls regardless of opposition they dont f***c around with their structures down back it doesnt change from week to week.
do you think rance on bradley size height a good match up without a chop out froma third tall. do you think grimes on hannath a good match up. they wont get a hand from batchelor he will have his hands full with mayne.  petterd is undermanned on fyfe.
how much better if it went
hannath v griffiths. bradley v rance. grimes v mayne. and batchelor v fyfe. dont kid yourself we are under sized and short in the back half when it comes to like for like match ups. griffiths would ease that problem no end.
a question would you even blink if chaplin, rance and grimes played every week if fit even if the opposition only had 2 genuine talls. i dont think so. defensive structure is everything why does our change every week. if chaplin was fit he would be playing along with rance and grmes.

chris mayne may only be 6ft 3 but he good in the air.  why give a mug an even break.

Good changes actually, only one I didn't call was White, only because I forgot about him..looks like we have gone for pace. Good side for that oval. I think they will play Ellis and sub White.

Really like the team we have in. Batchelor can take the big gimp Bradley. Helbig and Vlastuin add much needed tackle pressure and Whitey as an impact player off the bench with his speed.

It's not about that, it's the make up of the team and Ellis will be more match fit at this level and game savvy, White will probably come on when the game slows down, that way he can use his pace. My opinion anyway.
